Wow thanks David. Curious, how long did it take you to clean them up? I'm asking because, like you, I am working on a little subtitle project.

I think I only spent 45minutes on it - but like others said it's not an "important film" - watching with subtitles just to get to see it and understand it. Watched it with the AI subtitles + a text file copy in a text editor. As I watched I merged a few lines and added about 0.3-0.5 seconds to the length of some that appear and dissapear far too quick. Was so little dialogue I was able to do this without needing to pause much. A few grammatical mistakes for instance it was adding "Ja " in front of all the names or something. Then I took it back into Subtitle Edit and got it to renumber it and fixed a few more things, then watched back some of it..

For me, when I've done subtitles, I think I spend about 5 hours for every one hour of movie if I'm trying to do a good job. That includes time to get the subtitle times more accurate, rerunning sections that don't make sense, and researching meanings of figures of speech in languages I don't know. But there's some movies that I'm fine just letting Whisper do its thing and enjoy the movie what I can understand. (but I don't release those). I have read that for professionally produced subtitles they run about 8 hours of time to produce 1 hour of content. (And that is when they know the language). Its a trade off. I know I don't spend as much time as I could in the final stage of combining short subtitles but at some point its better to release it and let others enjoy it, than to hold on to something knowing that there's room for improvement.

When I was using the phone with the Microsoft translator app it was taking 10-15 hours per hour of film!
But the AI software and the auto-translation makes it a much quicker process - even with a thorough check and re-time it'd be about 2-4x quicker.

This short is listed twice on IMDb, under the English title When I Close My Eyes(2014) and again under the French title Le pli dans l'espace(2014). The French version seems to be five minutes longer - which given the fact that it's French, makes me curious about what the cut scene(s) might be. Someone have the 20 minute file by any chance?

From my experience of using IMDb, the runtime isn't always accurate on the site.. It could be an error

Like, I've watched several short films that has a runtime on IMDb and I go watch the short and the video has a completely different runtime

Basically what I'm saying is you shouldn't just rely solely on IMDb with Runtimes

I'm ofc not saying a 20 minute version doesn't exist but the chances are there
