They wouldn't need to go to a movie screening and copy down license plates in the parking lot anymore. Tracking digital payment, cell phone location data, etc., would be enough. If they cared to bother. I mean, some people might not approve of the content but there's nothing illegal going on.
A simple transfer of a movie wouldn't be that expensive. But the time and money invested in a full restoration like this one - which would take work, no known copy of this film is undamaged - implies some method of getting your money back by marketing the result. This film has a cult following so a limited run Collector's Edition would probably sell out. I've got my eyes peeled. If I happen to see one available, I'll order immediately and let everyone know - a rip, remux, and full disc .iso will be up as soon as I can post them.
