Thank you for the clarification Kingfisher.

I began looking for another uploaded PDF of the Der Spiegel issue on emule but no luck. Plenty of content far worse than that of course but I won't go there.

From an online search I have come up with the issue in question having the article
"Die verkauften Lolitas Kinder auf dem Sex-Markt - Film-Mädchen Eva Ionesco" Nr. 22 / 22.05.1977 Der Spiegel

This has a placeholder but does not seem to include the text of the cover article despite other issues being there:
https://www.spiegel.de/spiegel/print/index-1977-22.html

In this auction the issue sold for 89.00 € - cheap!
https://www.filmundo.de/pressematerial/ ... 30471.html

Plenty of Chris Hansens online are looking to SELL the issue. But a shared PDF or just plain text I have given up on.

Here is the article from 'Der Spiegel`from 1977:
BIG THANK YOU to whoever reshared it on emule.

DDL: [Code] I have not looked into PDF translation yet but since it is only 8 pages the translation should be quick.

But what is this...    :o :o :o I can't believe it, Eva Ionesco on the cover as EVA...   I'd already seen Brooke Shields' photos, but I suppose this magazine leaves nothing to the imagination. I'm afraid to download it; I don't want the FBI knocking on my door. :icon_badidea :naughty

I don't think the FBI cares about Eva's pictures but of course you should only do what you decide is safe. Der Spiegel was apparently censured by the courts (German article not linked, because I do not want to look for it again) at the time of publication but that seems to have been a big nothing slap on the wrists. It is pretty clear why they do not make the article available NOW, as court rulings have changed in the decades since.

Then quickly transfer the file to a USB to copy it to a computer with no Internet in a locked Faraday cage, then burn the USB and use RevoUninstaller to do a complete wipe of deleted space on the original computer's hard drive.

I don't know German either, except maybe for reading headlines. I tried several supposedly "free" online PDF-translation sites. The ones that gave a translation were not very good and did not even keep the text in the right order. Others held the full translation hostage until a registration and PAID MEMBERSHIP. In other words, NOT FREE. Businesses have a right to charge for their services but they should not start by claiming it is free. The best I managed was one that gave the first 3 pages free (with the cover being page 1) but I do not remember what one that was. The Der Spiegel writing was the level of typical trash journalism: "LOOK AT THIS!!!! Isn't it terrible? Someone ought to do something about this scandal!" If I took the effort of learning how to split an 8 page PDF into 3 separate PDFs, maybe I could find that site again and submit 3 pages, 3 pages, and 2 pages and then put it all back together. That was more effort than I cared to make after all the failed attempts. Maybe someone else knows a free PDF translator that will do 8 pages for free, but I gave up. Sorry.

take screenshots of the text at a good zoom, up the contrast if needed, find a OCR "Original character recognition" translator. I would suggest that. PDF has fees associated with it - but might be many more image -> text sites.

Damn, that sounds like WORK! But thanks for the suggestion. On a small scale I have used OCR translators that identify and translate Japanese stylized manga writing and I know that works, so transcribing and translating standard print Latin fonts to another language with the same alphabet should be easier. I was just hoping for something that would translate the text with the pictures intact and all in one go. The text in the "news" rags is all over the page and some are captions for the pictures; they are not sequential like a book. A translation in the proper context and position would be helpful. Your method might be the only way to do it for free. :icon_thumbup1
