Oh, it wasn't a big deal - and it was for free.

Thank you for sharing this, ghost. I suspected it was not your type of movie. Can you verify that there are NOT any German subtitles for it at Amazon?

The opensubtitles German subs look like an edit of the YouTube AutoGen subs and not very good. If Amazon has subtitles they would surely be proper ones, and interested parties could use them for a decent translation.

I quickly compared the two files. It looks like Alex's smaller file is a recode of the Amazon and is slightly brighter. [Code] [Image]

If so, then it's not really an AI upscale. Some aspects of the Amazon rip initially look like AI upscaling artifacts, bleeding of colors (especially red) for example, but you can also see the same things on the years-old analog rip. The only processing they seem to have done is to apply a de-noising filter to get rid of grain. The film they mastered from is old 1960's stock - in remarkably good condition after all these years I might add. Such issues are to be expected.

Amazon does not yet use AI to remaster any of their library - although they've started using it to create those preview clips that start playing a few seconds after you select something. I suspect it's just a matter of time though. Saves money, not having to hire actual humans to do the same work, even if the results look better.

Just out of curiosity, what software do you use for these captures? I used to have AnyStream from redfox before they vanished into oblivion and it became useless. Since then I've always been able to find what I needed without recording it myself. Right now I want to see if I can get the Amazon Prime version of Ya Soy Mujer! (1975), but I have nothing to capture it with. Whatever you used seems like the right tool.

I use StreamFab to download (not capture) DRM protected videos (like Amazon). it works on almost every website and streaming service.
It was pretty expensive, but I use it so often...

Yes, I had AnyStream too. I got pretty mad, when they vanished and my money was gone. :icon_gattling

The best tool for capturing your screen is Audials to my opinion. It detects the frame rate of the video and records only the video stream, no overlays like the play button and that stuff.

REALLY? :think Color me skeptical... about anything Amazon does. I can not imagine Amazon putting money into actual proper film restoration, just into licensing for streaming already restored material. Yet every once in awhile some relatively obscure film previously only available in SD suddenly magically appears as an Amazon exclusive in HD without any explanation and without any other exploitation of the property like a BluRay. Who actually did the work on this one? I see that Amazon credits the currently-existing RoxyFilm GmbH as the Studio, so perhaps Roxy put the money up for the improvements but just for Amazon streaming. Comparing the two files it looked like they had similar film-print artifacts (and perfectly matched runtime). I figured that the color-grading difference of the smaller one (it is lighter, the Amazon is darker) is because it is a modified version of the Amazon version. So it is therefore a computer-enhancement of a 1080p that itself is someone else's restoration. Maybe it was easier to call those final adjustments AI? I know that when ghost finds a 1080p but is not pleased with the colors and fixes them, he TELLS US what he does. But for file-naming purposes, maybe that sort of change is reasonably called in shorthand just "AI". Just my guessing here.

Perhaps I should've said, to the best of our knowledge they don't stream AI upscaled content. According to them they don't. Whether they would tell us if they did is anyone's guess. Although most customers probably wouldn't care.

If they say that (somewhere) then I accept it at face value. (Call me naive if you wish.) I just have a hard time finding out more information about Amazon Prime videos - when I do not have a Prime account. Maybe with the proper login more information would be available. And you are right, most people would not care.

AI is good for sources we don't have HQ version of but otherwise even putting some old master scan to new 1080p stream is better which seems like what they did here. Usually people who own these films put up money for scan and restoration and amazon and others lease them for their streaming services.

Thanks ghost for original amazon version looks good.
I am also using stream fab to grab amazon rips.
but i have been trying to learn to use Nm3u8 + Widewine CDN Decryption to grab drm videos so far I am able to get things off few sites.
