In 1992, during a tumultuous time in Lima, Peru, Lucia, Aurora, and their mom Elena decide to move to the USA. Reuniting with their estranged father Carlos makes their departure full of mixed emotions like regret, hope, and fear in this '90s story.

Another great find, Caleyunior!

But I think, we'll have to wait at least 6 months, until there's a chance to get it online. :(

Reinas got the big price of the int. Jury of this year Berlinale Generation.
It was my favorite of this year and Abril Gjurinovic (playing Lucia) is a very lovley girl in personal. I got the chance to see her two times and talking a bit with her.

Some more pics:

Some more about the Story:
The story, which takes place in Peru / Lima in the 90s, is about two girls who live with their mother. She would like to leave the country and move to California, as there are repeated deadly attacks in the country and inflation is also making life difficult. In order to leave the country, however, the mother needs a signature from her ex-husband.
On the birthday of the older daughter (Aurora), the father comes to visit, who is obviously hardly interested in the children. In any case, the children's greeting is very cold when he appears at the door and it seems to have been a long time since their last encounter.
He promises the children that he will do something with them soon and the children's wish is to go to the beach, but once again he doesn't show up on the agreed day. More days go by without him getting in touch, but then one day he does turn up at the door and they go on their trip.
Aurora, of course, has completely different plans on the beach, wants to meet up with friends and talk about her crush, while she leaves her little sister Lucia behind with their father.
It takes a while for the ice to thaw between the two, but as the father is a good storyteller, he does manage to slowly build up a bond.
Meanwhile, Aurora develops the plan that she doesn't want to leave the country at all. She has her roots here and the fact that her father is now suddenly trying to establish contact is a welcome opportunity. When she secretly leaves the house one evening after an argument to go to her father's apartment and Lucia follows her, the two are arrested by the military, as there is a very strict curfew in the evenings due to the tense situation. When the family learns from Aurora's friends that the two children have been roaming the streets in the evening, they begin to search for them.

Just a small Update. I got the Info that the World Sales for Germany going to "Arsenal Filmverleih" and they listed the movie under "Soon", but without any release Date. Here is the entry for the Movie (German): https://arsenalfilm.de/reinas/index.html (The Website looking very old shool btw.)

For Switzerland I found the Info that this movie will run in cinemas from Sep. 05.2024, so that would be very soon.

Wordlwide Distribution is managed by Penny Black Media: https://www.pennyblackmedia.com/reinas/ and the listed it with the english Title "Queens".

I made a research today again for that movie and was surprised... It got an cinema release for germany since Dec. 5. In my town, who have lot of cinemas, I found it only in two cinemas. Anyway, it's released in Germany and Austria (since Nov.) and it's translated to German. Official Title is: Reinas - Die Königinnen

Thank you for this movie and your work on the subs. ghost. I had been a while since I first read about it when Caleyunior first posted about it, and I remember being interested in it. And now finally it is available.

I finally got around to watching this

I quite enjoyed this movie, was fun

The black borders kept annoying me though.. I'm not sure if this is just an SBS problem or if this is how it's supposed to be but yea

(On a side note, Spain should probably also be added to the thread's title)
