I've been seeing this around FLM quite a bit so I'm gonna ask a question

What is the magnet thing in peoples posts? How does it work.. Do I like copy it into the web browser address bar or what?

It's a close analog to an ed2k link for torrents. It contains a hash and then when you load it into your client, the torrent client will perform a DHT search for anyone seeding a torrent with that hash (note: magnets can also include tracker urls too, but not required). It's popular with public torrents since you don't need to download a file to start a torrent download and can just load the magnet into the torrent client directly.
