I got a question (I don't know if anyone has already asked this in the thread already.. I had a bit of a look and I can't seem to find a post that answers my question but I am half asleep..)

If I watch the 16 min version of the Making of in this post -
Night457 wrote: Wed Mar 22, 2023 5:09 am I was going to reply "AND...?" because mine has the sand fight with the boys from about 05:24-09:16. Fortunately, somebody was sharing the original FLM file and I could see the differences between the two. Thank you to whoever was sharing it!

I see why the video quality was described as "atrocious", but the FLM version has Nina in it for several minutes more and is well worth checking out.

Specifications:
Spoiler:

General : Mario e il mago - Making of.mp4
Format : MPEG-4 at 1 188 kb/s
Length : 144 MiB for 16 min 55 s 19 ms
Video #0 : AVC at 1 051 kb/s
Aspect : 480 x 360 (1.333) at 25.000 fps
Audio #0 : AAC at 128 kb/s
Infos : 2 channels, 48.0 kHz
MEGA: [File]
Is it also worth watching the 20 min version?
Night457 wrote: Mon Mar 20, 2023 3:07 pm I don't have that exact file but I have one with matching screenshots and the embedded timecode. It could also be described as having "atrocious" quality.

Except mine is 480p instead of 360p, and 20:29 instead of 16:55.

Specs:
Spoiler:

General : Oliveri Marinello 1993 Mario e il mago dietro le quinte.mp4
Format : MPEG-4 at 961 kb/s
Length : 141 MiB for 20 min 29 s 56 ms
Video #0 : AVC at 829 kb/s
Aspect : 640 x 480 (1.333) at 25.000 fps
Audio #0 : AAC at 126 kb/s
Infos : 2 channels, 44.1 kHz
Oliveri Marinello is apparently the name of the beach, and "dietro le quinte" means "behind the scenes". I have no idea where I got this!

MEGA: [File]
Does the 20 minute version have scenes that is FLM-related/on topic not shown in the 16 minute version?

(According to Night, the 20 minute version is missing several minutes of Nina Schweser I think)

You could watch them both yourself and decide, rather than relying on the unreliable memories of other people about a Making Of. The only way I could say for sure is to sit down and watch them both again. That's something that someone who has never seen them even once should do.

But do I really want to waste an entire 20 minutes watching something that..

1) I don't even understand (Since there's no english subs)
2) Watching Scenes that's not very interesting/I've already just seen in the 16 minute version

Well then I guess you answered one of your questions: it is not worth it for you to watch the other version.

Of course the longer version has more footage in general but I do not remember the exact nature of it; I just noticed that the shorter version has more footage of Nina. If I had not documented that information here I would not remember it. If I watch a Making Of I usually watch it once because they are fundamentally poorly edited and not very interesting (to me)! I am not sure if I managed to watch both of these all the way through, I might have just skimmed through. I would rather watch the 2-hour movie again than a Making Of because the movie has a plot, and it does not matter that it is not "FLM" all the way through.

Klaus Maria Brandauer probably considered his presence the most interesting part of the film, and the Making Of.

The 20 minute version has fewer scenes with Nina, but better video quality than the 17 minute version - so the clips it does have are clearer. The original reel is obviously longer than 20 minutes and quite possibly contains a lot of scenes from throughout the movie which weren't shown in these two compilations. That would make a very nice addition to the special features on a bluray!

I was going to go back and add the subtitles to my disc a while back but forgot before I had the chance. A PM request just reminded me of this movie so if anyone wants to go back and download the DVD with subtitles it's here:

I hope they put those outtakes on the bluray. :D
A blu-ray is coming? 😳🥺😍

Not likely

They wouldn't release a blu-ray over 30 years later

A DVD has been released, a BluRay could be released. Perhaps it is not likely for this movie.
