1fichier goes cheap on us

Post by deadman »   4 likes

Well, yet another really good free host just enshittified. Download speeds are now capped at about 1 Mbps and the waiting period greatly extended. It's about 30 minutes between downloads, from what I can tell, and those downloads can take a while. I don't think I can maintain the 1fichier links I've posted personally. I used to load a list of them into JDownloader and let it run every 25 days or so to keep them all permanently active. It's too slow for that now. They're going to start expiring.

We're going to find that any 1F links older than a month or two are more likely expired than still online. It's too bad. I have to wonder whether they really can't cover operating expenses or are just being greedy. Don't know enough about running one of these services to say for sure. I will note that storage has gotten dirt cheap though.

I did hear that they have lost quite a few court cases/legal battles over the years so I wouldn't be surprised that they can't cover the expenses

From what I can tell, 1fichier punishes frequent downloaders by slowing the connection and increasing the wait time the more you download. But actually 1mps cap and 30 minute wait time is still pretty good, it gets so much worse! The host is unusable on my VPN because I only get dialup speeds. On my home IP it is around what you are getting now.

They've hated VPNs for a long time. But using my own IP address, I used to get at least 15-20 Mbps even when it was "slowed down" and about 15 minutes between downloads. It still took the better part of a day to go through all the links I've posted. Slow that down by a factor of 20, and you see how maintaining my links becomes untenable. JD would be occupied downloading most of the time. Only the really popular links that people reliably download more often than once a month will remain online. I'll probably abandon 1F for pixeldrain, where you can at least see which links you need to refresh yourself and which ones got downloaded a few days ago and are fine.

Darnit. I have been using the other available options at DDLBase with its full disk remuxes because I had abused the fichier so much, even using pixeldrain instead! I can deal with 30 minutes between remuxes, but the time downloading has gotten longer and longer. Still, it is faster than the 12-hour tezfiles downloads of much smaller files. Tez is reliable, but I will not pay for the higher speeds.

As I said many times before: Get a debrid account for less than $5 a month and all your problems are gone. And not only with 1fichier.
But if you're one of those guys "I don't pay for anything in the internet, I want everything for free", then you have to deal with limitations and slow downloads.

Just my 2 cents.

I have one. They are not terribly expensive. But my experience is that when you download using a debrid account, hosts don't always count it as a download - i.e. even if you transfer 100% of the file to your hard drive the link may expire anyway. Like it only counts downloads directly through the service. It's hard to tell for sure with 1fichier, since it doesn't offer stats on file activity the same way pixeldrain does.

Oh, I also just got a waiting period on 1F that was one hour. It's still very much usable to download movies. Not so much for mass posters trying to keep their links alive though. As a result of which the active lifespans of posted links in general will be shorter going forward.

Huh? I've never experienced that before. I just integrated my 2 debrid accounts in JDownloader 2 and it just works everytime.
Rapidgator, MEGA, 1fichier, Pixeldrain... All working without limits and at full speed.

Memory prices skyrocketed in the past months and predictions are that they will double again in 2026. The 2nd problem is that mayor shortages are predicted too when the current inventory is sold. So unfortunately hosters (too) are in trouble.

RAM prices have gone up 5 fold in the last 6 months. But HDD prices are only slightly higher. Maybe 40% from a few years ago. But price is about $15/TB for 8-24TB on the amazons. Look at share prices in Micron, Samsung, etc.
