That is the sort of sensible solution I have used for some things, and I have even done it for yt-dlp. I have a couple such text files in my yt-dlp folder, but I seldom remember they are THERE. My brain stops at what I can remember and I work from that.

Thank you to both DreamScape and Night. I recall figuring it out once before, but then forgot. And then I got a tad confused with all the command line options available. Yet I still make myself use them instead of using a gui.

I'll share a tidbit I use for navigating to yt-dlp. Possibly you all already know about it.

After launching cmd, it starts in a default area on your local HD. At least it does on mine. I simply type "[drive letter]:", the drive letter being the drive your ytdlp exe file is located. As in "F:" Of course without quotes. Hit enter, and that takes you to the drive.

Then, I use "cd [directory name]" to direct it to the directories it is located in. Shortcut for this part: first type in "cd ..." and then the beginning letters of the directory name. Like "cd yt", then hit TAB. Hitting tab will autocomplete the directory name to the appropriate directory, so all you have to hit afterwards is enter. So "cd yt" plus TAB makes it "cd ytdlp", at least in my setup. Of course, if you already have a directory similarly titled, it may select that one first. Just keep hitting tab until you get to the right one.

This whole cycle makes navigating to the ytdlp directory super quick, done in just a few seconds.

Navigate in Windows Explorer (or whatever the heck they are calling it now) one level above the folder you want. Right click on the folder and select "Open in Terminal". (Or the equivalent for a different version of Windows.) It opens Command on that folder.

I have a dedicated yt-dlp folder with all the EXEs and such I need in it. However, some time ago I followed the online instructions so that my computer will "find" yt-dlp from any location on my computer. So I can create a new folder for a movie or short that I want, and then open Terminal on THAT folder. I use yt-dlp in that instance of Terminal and the downloaded file is already where I want it to be. I don't have to move it out from my yt-dlp folder.

Obviously I do not remember the terminology to describe what those instructions were instructing me to do, so I would have a really hard time finding them and doing it again on another computer.
