The film was a intl hit maybe 1-2 years after it was made. I remember seeing something on a US talkshow only a year after the release and paraphrasing... "remember that girl from that New Zealand film well she's pregnant and due to be married". Wikipedia confirms:

Personal life
In October 2006, when she was 16, it was announced that Castle-Hughes and boyfriend Bradley Hull were expecting a child together. Their daughter was born in 2007. Castle-Hughes and Hull broke up in 2010 after seven years together.

Wikipedia also lists relationships - "Bradley Hull (2003–2010)" - she was only born in 1990 ! He was also 3 years older.
