Synopsis:

Hiding out for years in an isolated cabin, Norman Nordstrom has taken in and raised a young girl orphaned from a house fire.

Now she's 11 years old and their quiet existence is shattered when a group of kidnappers show up to take the girl, forcing Norman to leave his safe haven to save her.

Quite a pleasant surprise. (Despite it being a slightly gory thriller/horror film.)

Having seen the first 'Don't Breathe' I didn't really expect there to be children in the sequel; so what a shock to see, in the first few minutes of the film, cute little Madelyn Grace running for her life from a vicious Rottweiler.. Even better; finding out minutes later that she's a main character: Norman's 'daughter' Phoenix!!

Madelyn is in at LEAST 85% of the film [probably even more], and does a great job with her character.

Oddly, though; 2 different sites give 2 different years for her birth. They both agree that her birth DAY is December, 17. However one site gives her birth YEAR as 2006, while the other states it's 2008.

So she's either about to turn 13 or 15 depending on whichever site is right.

Yes.

In the original a group of petty thieves break into this blind man's house thinking it will be an easy-peasy job. After all; the guy is old AND blind.
What they DIDN'T know is the old guy was a Special Op's Navy Seal and, though blind, still knows how to use his 'special skills'. To make things even stranger; they find an older teenaged girl (a local girl that had been missing for awhile) chained and held captive in his basement.

The old man calls her his daughter (a replacement, maybe, for his real daughter who had died sometime before), but the BIG problem is he wants to impregnate her. So then, beyond just trying to get out of his house alive, the thieves also try to save the girl.

Part 2, which takes place 8 years later, most definitely makes the old man the 'good guy' much more so than the original. This new girl, Phoenix, though still not his real daughter, has been raised by him since she was 2 or 3. He doesn't seem to have ulterior motives for her except to raise and protect her as his own.

Spoiler: Much more so than her REAL parents...

It got some bad reviews but with a couple of unexpected twists and turns, I found it enjoyable and entertaining. Geeze it's a thriller/horror film; but better than I expected... (Largely due for the empathy I felt for Madelyn Grace's portrayal of Phoenix... )

Oh, I didn't know this movie had a little girl until I finally decided to watch the trailer

I've known of this movie for a while now but it just didn't sound like an FLM movie

Definitely looks promising, I will be watching this sometime next week (I'll probably skip the first movie though lol.. For now at least anyway)

The first is a lot better, but they're self-contained stories so it doesn't matter which you start off with. But, you might appreciate the characters more in the second knowing what happened earlier.

The second movie has a different tone. WHile the first movie is kind of out there it still feels grounded in reality like some bizarre story you'd hear in the news, the second throws any suspension of disbelief out the window and it's more like some comic book fantasy. Not bad but a little disappointing if you loved the first one

So maybe I could try watching it, I don't know.. haven't decided yet whether I want to watch the first
