Problems with Pages and Processes

Post by rmt@36 »   0 likes

Hi All

It's that time again I have another problem and was wondering if anybody can help me fix them.

The first problem, I am not sure if I was the cause of the problem, but now it is annoying the hell out of me. whether it is firefox or on the desktop whenever there is a second page, or an information box that is not full page I have to minimize the first page to see it or deal with it. When I try to go to it or deal with it it will disappear and it is under the first page. Any Ideas?

The second problem is I was fixing a problem with my computer and following instructions, (I believe I ended up doing something with the "RUN" area and I ended up turning on all these programs. Right now I have 55 processes running and it is seriously slowing down my computer. I can't remember where the page is that I got all this info from to go back and turn off some of the processes. And I don't know which ones to turn off.

Can somebody give me a hand and help clear up these problems?

I would be forever grateful, Thanks in advance for any help anybody can give me.

1. This is a common problem; if you interact with another window, the message box will go behind it and stay there. Try using alt+tab to switch between windows.

2. If you just started a few services or programs, a simple reboot will turn them off again. However, if you set them to run on startup, you need to set them back. Type msconfig in the run box to bring up the configuration window. Look under the startup tab to see which programs are set to run on Windows startup.
Don't turn off stuff you need, eg. anything related with your antivirus. The path given alongside should give you a clue.

IMO M$ stuff doesn't have much impact unless you have insufficient RAM. Leave them be. Look for other apps; disable everything in msconfig> startup except stuff you know you need, like A/V, sound card, printer, etc. If something breaks, go back to msconfig and re-enable the corresponding entry.

Post a list of the entries in msconfig> startup if you need more advice.

If you are asking about un-necessary services, I'm afraid that is beyond my level of expertise. You'll get more help here: http://www.ryanvm.net/msfn/updatepack-sp2.html look at the links at the bottom.

Look for Merjins antispyware and download hijackthis. Run the scan and post the results either privately (it is a big output usuallly) or in here.
