I'm with billanben on this. Can't see anything unusual in the graph that could be indicative of an attack.

It is puzzling, because most of our images are offsite, eg. on Imageshack. Can you check with the server if they are by some mistake including that bandwidth to our account?

Could be that our avatars are causing the glut. Can you consider uploading all our avatars to Imageshack and linking them from there like the other images?

The detailed stats at http://www.first-loves.com/modules.php? ... s&op=Stats are interesting...
[Code] So quite possibly it was just an active month... maybe some of the posts to a.b.thelostmovies brought in new some people.
billanben wrote:Have to say that looks like a natural increase to me from following reasons :-
1. Increase in members posting (not sure since we lost Terry if that can be true).
Members *reading* is the important thing, and any newbies will read a lot at first.
billanben wrote:2. Increase in amount of graphics included in each post - this would be my guess and the two answers I can think of are :-

Don't embed the graphics - provide links.
Embedded graphics don't count against our bandwidth, since the image comes directly from the external server, the pictures aren't on FLM's server.
billanben wrote:Increase the amount of bandwidth allowed to maybe 10GB to allow for growth (we may well have to stump up for this option).
The yearly server cost would go up by 50% to £150. Worth considering if this keeps happening. (Hey, wait a second, wasn't only a month ago when FLM was thought to be "dead"? :)

Let's see... highly-sought-after films such as Arvacska, demi-tarif, and La Casa de mi abuela were posted last month, and we went over our bandwidth. Hmmm... looks to me like the solution is to post *only* boring kids films! :eyecrazy :wall

Any stats on number of searches? Some hosts penalize you for CPU usage by adding something to your used bandwidth.

You could be right, they would get less hits.

Best we scrap that idea though.

Surely the key to this is to find out exactly what the ISP/Host is counting against us in terms of bandwidth usage. A detailed breakdown of that should give us the answers and also enable us to work out a solution.

My feeling is still that if the graphic is a link, they will not charge since all that happens is the user utilizes their own bandwidth to follow a URL. If they are embedded, I accept that it should be the same case, but can't help thinking this increase in bandwidth SEEMS to coincide with the large amount of graphics being embedded now as opposed to before.

Just MHO - proof will be in what the ISP/Host says we are charged for.

Great graph btw - from Nagios I believe ?

can someone please enlighten me to why FLM was considered "dead" some one month ago, and why this chitchat about Terry? He's gone?

FLM sufferered a week's outage last week due to having exceeeded ISP bandwidth limit - BTW - easy way to keep in contact in these circs - tried the gmail addy and it bounced flm@xxx.com ).

Teery disappeared off the face of the earth about three months ago and was regular and good contributor (who did not always see eye to eye with others here including myself). IMO, this forum needs posters like him so i treat that as a loss.

Was there any contractual change since January?

I should have said "dying" rather than "dead", my quip was a tongue-in-cheek reference to the thread you posted in April "Hi, is FLM dying?" It certainly rebounded in May!

Not at all! I still don't know the reason for this high bandwidth.
Let's see what will happen in the end of June.
