Why so slooooooooow?
Why so slooooooooow?
Although it doesn't take much time to open first-loves.com, it takes many minutes to open any posting clicked on. Actually, maybe they don't open at all - I get fed up after ten minutes. Replying to a private post, posting a new post, everything - takes a donkey's age.
I'd be curious to know, unless this is private information, who and where your ISP is. I'll know to not take my own blog there!
And while I am caught in cyberspace, unable to go anywhere...
Why is my blog not listed in your list of relevant links? I listed yours.
I was asked in a private message why I don't open an unkown movies post in firslovemovies. Well, I'd prefer posters post on my site when the subejcts are movie leads basde on my own research. Although no one, at this stage, can post, anyone can comment. Stage one is archiving every easily available VHS/DVD movie that I have viewed. Stage two will be only VERY relevant films, inlcuding those found by downloading - leads from excellent sites such as firstlovemovies.

It was completely inaccessible for me for a while tonight, the domain name wasn't even resolving. Unfortunately this happens occasionally to small "budget" webhosts, because they run dozens or hundreds of small sites off of a single server. For £15 a month you won't get a dedicated server! And you won't get the redundancy and load-sharing that large sites such as blogspot have, either. If any one of the sites on the same server gets a sudden surge of traffic or installs a faulty script which monopolizes the machine, all other sites including FLM suffer.Roman Guy wrote:Although it doesn't take much time to open first-loves.com, it takes many minutes to open any posting clicked on. If you mean in the 'Childhood Website Links' forum, you need to post there yourself! If you mean at the top of the page with cic, rff etc, well I am not an admin so I can't say. My guess is that it's partly that teh page design hasn't been updated since you've come along, and in addition a clickable image of your logo would be required, I don't recall seeing one anywhere for your site.Roman Guy wrote:Why is my blog not listed in your list of relevant links? Re: Why so slooooooooow?
I don't know what happened the last hours.. Normally the site is fast and now it seems everything is o.k. again.
@Roman Guy: Feel free to post your site! It shouldn't miss in the 'Website Links' forum

Re: Why so slooooooooow?
I believe that thi site gets DDOS attacks on an infrequent basis. If you try to open anything at this time, you will see the symptoms you describe. I contacted Admins to advise a while ago that there was an occurrence with all these symptoms. There is not much they could do other than contact ISP and try to ensure ISP takes all possible precautions both to prevent, and also to recover. On this note, is this site regularly backed up ?
Regarding having the blog in the headers here, I don't believe that this would be appropriate due to some of the content - not referring to the excellent comments on the films, but more the experiences in foreign countries. Each to their own, but that is something which we should not openly advertise.
This post could be renamed maybe and moved to the Links section ?

That said, like DB I think you have an excellent resource there RG and thanks for your hard work.

Re: Why so slooooooooow?
That's certainly possible, but at this point there's nothing specific which points to FLM being a target. Go to http://www.myipneighbors.com/ and plug in first-loves.com and you'll find the server we are on supports 42 sites. At least eight of them have been hacked and completely taken over (the front page displays nothing but a hacker message). Any of those hacked sites could be being used for who knows what and be causing the access problems, any of the other running sites could have been attacked or be causing the problems in another way.billanben wrote:I believe that thi site gets DDOS attacks on an infrequent basis.
If we were being targeted I have to believe our ISP would tell us (though maybe they are so small they don't know or care). Also that whoever is doing it would say something to taunt us, there's little satisfaction if your victim never realizes they are a victim. So you could be right that we are a target, but there are enough other possibilities that I will withhold judgement until there is more information.

Actually, I agree! While I might have some intellectual refinements, on the common sense level I am a cretin. As my lawyer once remarked, 'You have absolutely no sense of survival' But he is in prison and I am not. So far. I take inspiration from the Norse berserkers, Celtic blueberried forest boys and kamakazi pilots. But they are dead and I am alive. So far.
