Yeah its a real shame.
I think he put a lot of effort into his work.
I wonder if he lost his enthusiasm because no one ever posted comments on his site.
I’m sure it had 1000's of hits regardless!

He said "I am semi-retiring, or at least taking a break for an indefinite period (other than ocassional posts)" which implies he will leave the blog in place, and doesn't rule out the possibility of his returning.

Quite frankly I am surprised that noone has complained to blogspot and gotten it removed, anyway.

If he had a problem with people not leaving comments it is because when I tried leaving comments, his site wouldn't take them. so it wasn't for a lack of trying on our part.
