They will have to be available from amazon.co.uk but looking for a shortish list of favourite REQs. Wanted to get La Petite Bande but looks like only available in France. Will check my top 10 first but please feel free to suggest (no guarantee of success of course). Ordering in a week's time.

I have recently been looking through REQs for those on DVD available in the US. I have a few already in hand or in queue. My REL of Hide and Seek the other day was the first of these, other will follow soon.

Just so noone duplicates effort, here are DVDs I have received or are on the way which are REQs or related:

There are a bunch more that may or may not be worth releasing, I'll add those later.

By the way, as part of my looking two weeks ago I almost ordered Pavee Lackeen (Traveller Girl) from amazon.co.uk, it was quite cheap even shipped to the US. I held off figuring I would be swamped with the above DVDs in the short term, if noone else gets it soon I'll order it anyway.

I also have a bunch of VHS things ripped (for example Old Enough) where I am just too unhappy with the quality to release yet. Part of the reason I got these DVDs is I was tired of ####ing around trying to get acceptable release quality from poor VHS copies and wanted to get something out. I also went out a month ago and bought an additional tower PC mainly to do encoding, the machine I had to use before was very slow and it took forever to get these things done.

Sadly, buying the DVD doesn't necessarily mean good quality, especially with older movies. I found that out the hard way when I bought Laura (David Hamilton) from amazon.com (or was it videoflicks.com?). It looks like it was mastered from a VHS tape. Can't blame the DVD; there just isn't anything better to be had. All the clips available on the net are the same grainy quality.

Hamilton blurred his movies on purpose!



And amazon.com sells lots of crap (hard-telecine, hardcoded subs, widescreen cropped to 4:3), even though proper releases of the same movies are available elsewhere.

I ripped it in 2007 and decided for whatever reason (I don't remember) not to release it. I will get out that external drive and check it to see if I still feel that way (though it will probably be moot).
