No sound coming from WMP 11

Post by rmt@36 »   0 likes

Hi all,

Here's another edition of RMT screwing up his computer again, this time I have no sound coming from my speakers. They were working earlier, now not so much.

First off I was having problems with codecs so updated my codecs which created some problems. I updated my sound card realtek 97.

It still said I was having problems and I updated morgan multimeadia codec because it told me to do so.

now when things play I get ffshow codecs and a divx codec show up on my taskbar where that stuff wasn't there before.

I have checked the devices and audio sound whatamacallit and I still get no sound on any of my movies clips or tv shows on my computer.

Anybody have any ideas on what I can do to fix my problem.

Thanks in advance.

No sound at all?

1. Did it happen after you updated the driver? Are you sure it is the right driver? An incorrect driver will often install without warnings or errors, but will not produce any sound. You can use device manager to roll back the drivers for your sound adapter.

2. Double click the speaker icon in the system tray to bring up the mixer and check that the sliders for the wave device isn't too low or muted. You won't believe how many people I have helped this way. :P

3. Go to control panel> sounds and audio devices. Click the 'audio' tab and see that the correct device is selected in sound playback. If you are using the SPDIF output (digital speakers) make sure that SPDIF is selected; if you are using ordinary analog speakers, make sure it is NOT selected.

Thanks for your help emuler

With your help, on the master sound control I found the wave section the volume control was at zero.

For some reason (it has happened a couple of times since) it will push the toggle down to zero and I will not get any sound.

At least I now know how to fix it.

Again Thanks for your help.

Hehe! One more to the tally. :)

Check the various media players you have. It is possible that one of them has the volume slider set to minimum. You turn up the volume when you play it, but the media player will restore the original settings when you exit. Have the mixer visible when you launch the player and see what happens.
