Re: FINALLY THE HOUNDDOG ON THEATERS

When available I shall duly download & watch this movie for no other reason than any film that has created such attention (& probably hit page 3 on this thread) SHOULD be watched. I also am not a great fan of Dakota..........no, I'll rephrase that.........I can't stand her & can think of many actresses with considerably more talent in their school bags!
We need to accept this film has been post production for so long that cut or uncut, it's going straight to DVD. BAD FILMS GO STRAIGHT TO DVD!
I'm just praying it will be released shortly so it can be watched & forgotten.
Now her little sister is another matter..................
Probably best if I toddle off & hide behind the parapet now :) :) :)

I believe Bastard Out of Carolina was originally shown unedited on Showtime in the US, but the big difference is that BOOC is actually a good movie and a lot of people think Hounddog isn't. But some of those people say the rape scene in Hounddog isn't actually critical to the plot and is just thrown in for shock value, so maybe removing it will make the movie better. Wait and see.

Debaser, here are a couple of comments about Hounddog I've found... I'll repeat them here just to frustrate you when the scenes mentioned turn out to have been cut from the DVD :)
Fox News wrote:Indeed, 12-year-old Cody Hanford, who plays Fanning’s boyfriend in the provocative and poorly written outing, may actually become more of the focus than even the star.

In the film, his character lures Fanning’s into a barn and then watches as she’s raped. Hanford and Fanning also have numerous kissing scenes, some in which they’re half-dressed.
IMDB user wrote:In fact, this isn't really a film most people can relate to, given the unusual and irrelevant nature of Lewellen's life (no mother, idiot father, poor in the old-fashioned Deep South, and she is constantly behaving precociously - not because she thinks it is fun, as poor Fanning seemed to think, but because she is a wrecked, traumatized girl who doesn't really know any other). We are constantly treated to shots of Lewellen's underwear, Buddy shirtless and barefoot, and then there's the pointless scene where two naked children are tied together with a live snake and threatened at gunpoint. It makes you feel dirty just watching the film.

The behavior of Lewellen is disturbing, but there is this nasty sense that she is "asking" for the rape, given that she is constantly engaging in sexual behavior and then performs a striptease right before the rape itself. As this is not the most likely way in which girls aged 9-12 are going to be raped, the story seems silly, and with no relation to today. It is not something modern young girls would identify with (and is another reason why they shouldn't watch this film).

The film is cruel, it is strange, it is entirely about sex, and it is boring and badly-written and made.

The Motion Picture Group has completed the final edity of "Hounddog"

In the article at the link, the investment group "The Motion Picture Group" has announced that it has completed the final edit of Dakota's very controverisal unreleased film 'Hounddog', filmed last year in Wilmington, N.C.. Whether this means it will be soon released on DVD or even to theaters is not clear by reading the press release.

"is ready to screen it for distributors with the intention of completing a sale"

'Director, Deborah Kampmeier, stated, ... "Our new cut is stunning. We are proud to be bringing our best work out into the world.”'

In other words, based upon the bad reviews from Sundance, no one would touch this, so they re-edited it to make it better and/or reduce controversy. Could end up direct-to-dvd in a year, though it all depends on how well they fixed it up. Certainly if there is any promise there Dakota's fame will get it a release.

Thanks for the info :)

Do we think an uncut version will ever be leaked/released?

You never know... if they are smart they will add a "deleted scenes" extra to the DVD to sell to people wanting to see the original cut, as well as people who want to view the cut version. But we don't really know what they cut anyway, it could be very little or it could be a lot, only time will tell.
