Since then I've discovered the additional friend slots & powershare facility but still feel I have too many uploads running (at present 12). I seem to be able to achieve total upload speed of around 48kb/s which I feel is a bit low considering I regularly download in excess of 100kb/s & quite often peak at over 200kb/s. A quick basic lesson from someone familiar with this mod would be much appreciated.
A typical upload limit value is 80% of your maximum upload speed, too much more will choke off all downloading (since each downloaded block requires acknowledgement). Most ISPs have the max download speed set a lot higher than the upload speed, you need to find out what yours is. I have the Upload Speedsense (in Options->Advanced Options) and dynamic upload (in Options->Mod Options->Morph) turned off, maybe that would help. I rarely fail to upload at the maximum rate I have set in the options.

In Options->Mod Options->Morph under Friends I have the Max % of global limit for friends set to 75%, and under Powershare I have max Powershare set to 85%. This means normal users get some bandwidth but friends and releases get the bulk. I think I have left most other settings alone, it's been a while. The number of upload slots changes dynamically based on conditions, sometimes there are lots of slow ones and sometimes (esp. with multiple friend slots being used at one time) there are just a few fast ones. There is an option in that section to specify the max number of slots, maybe that would help. One thing I like about this mod is when you mouse over most items in the Options it gives you an explanatory popup balloon to figure it all out so you can tweak things.

There is a setting in Options->Mod Options->Morph->Security to ban leecher-capable clients. You should turn that off, ghost uses a client on their list and for the relatively specialized releases here it's not a big problem.

On the client icon for friends to whom you have given a friend slot the little heart changes from red to green. You need to check occasionally, eMule sometimes turns those slots off if the IP address changes or it becomes a LowID, to combat nick imitators.
BTW, what is FunnyNick?
The FunnyNick feature is wonderful. Since most users don't change their eMule nickname from the default, you normally can't easily recognize those users when they show up on the transfer tab. When FunnyNick is turned on eMule assigns each such user a name like "[FunnyNick] Elite Eagle" which allows you to distingush them from others. I recognize many FN users who show up on multiple FLM releases and often give them a friend slot, they are either active posters or lurkers here.

Well covered response FLL......thanks for that! I shall have a play with the settings a bit later. I've already installed a second emule on the system, dedicated to releasing when the need arises. Everyone will recognise me.........same username without the brackets. I'm running the Applejuice mod on this one although I'll probably switch it to morphXT as well.
BTW mongodisco.........I'd already sussed your username & filed for future reference! :)
Thanks for all your help.

With good reason. :P It shows itself as having the same username and client software as the client it is connected to.

Eg. I see them as emuler with client Plus v1.2d. I am emuler. :P
That's the nick thief hack. Also some other mods have it.
Personally i don't use it
