Help with wireless router settings

Post by jayvan »   0 likes

I'm new to eMule, and I think I'm almost there for set-up. Can anyone help with configuring my wireless router (D-Link WBR-2310) to change ports - I see in the posts that other new users have this speed problem. Mine says Connected, but no downloading happening. My firewall is off, and I'm running XP, so maybe it's the router? Thanks. :wall

Are you familiar with logging into your router and changing the settings? Have you opened the TCP/UDP ports in your router, according to what is specified in emule?

Thanks terry666, do you have wireless? Do you have recommended port settings?

I do have wireless, but my experience emuling though a computer connected wirelessly was not good. My pc kept freezing, so now I emule with a PC connected directly to the router. Someone else will have to help you with that...

I think with a wireless firewalled router you need to do what is called port forwarding. Possibly why I stick with my trusty old Speedtouch wired modem & the SP2 firewall. My ISP obviously thinks differently & over the years has sent me wireless routers, home hubs & all manner of crap that simply gather dust.
BTW don't forget that on first-run emule chooses ports randomly.

Thanks, I'll keep trying. Got it working with a wired connection.

Better with a direct Ethernet connection, but I have eMuled wirelessly several times with no problems. There is really no difference between wired and wireless in how you set the router up. (I am assuming a router with several direct Ethernet ports in addition to wireless, which is the most flexible and best way these days).

The site portforward.com is a wonderful resource... they have examples of port assignment for most routers with most major apps. I've seen them be off a little a couple of times (due to newer router firmware etc) and the complete newbie may still have trouble but overall it's a great thing, saved me a lot of time recently when my ISP changed and I got a new router whose terminology and UI was completely different than the Linksys I was used to.

Here's their eMule setup page for your router:
