Re: Status [Debaser]
Having big problems.
I’m currently in safe mode with no firewall or ant virus running.
Downloaded some software that turned out to be malicious.
Computer wont boot into windows now, just get blue screen.
Friend looked at it and the exe has removed registry entries and removed anti-virus and firewall!!
This sucks big time.
Thankfully I can get on in safe mode (sometimes), so I should be able to back up everything not already backed up, because I think a reinstall is the only way to solve this having tried system restore and the restore disk.
Ill be away from here a while, as I have to get this fixed whilst carrying on with real life work.
Just wanted to let you all know in case you think I have started slacking.
I will be back, so please wait for me!
All the best

Re: Status [Debaser]
Thanks ART
A quick update (from work).
PC is really screwed.
Registry files missing, can’t boot up to any mode anymore.
Apparently the virus is actually destroying my computer.
Two different technicians told me I have to have a new OS, and have all HD's formatted.
Looking back, although I backed up loads of movies, I had become a little lazy and stopped doing that 3 months ago.
I have lost at least 200 films.
1000’s of juicy pictures.
My own photo albums that I never got round to backing up.
Everything, and now I have to start again, well as soon as my mate who is very busy comes round to fix things and makes my PC foolproof.
Please please keep hot releases shared, as I don’t want to miss anything.
In fact I would really appreciate it if anyone that knows what I like could message me links that I may miss on my return.
Im not looking at any releases in the forum until I return, as I cant bare to see what I am missing!
I better not visit here anymore while at work.
I would imagine that I should be back here in a couple of weeks.
Cheers

Re: Status [Debaser]
There is a LiveCD Linux, where u can boot from CD and access all your windows files, even if you have a password to log in into windows. I forget which custom Linux it is, but has a tones of hacking tools.
Re: Status [Debaser]
Ouch. For that much stuff, particularly your own photos etc, it's worth a little effort to salvage files. If you don't want to fool with Linux, there is also a bootable Windows version that can be run completely from a CD/DVD or even a memory stick, for cases like this. You build it yourself with the tools you can get for free so you would need a machine at work presumably to build it on.

You're not the only one who gets lazy on backups, I just checked my own "not yet backed up to DVD" folder and it's over 400GB worth. I had backed most of that up by copying to spare space on an external HD but I have been slowly deleting the backup copies as I ran out of space for new stuff. I better get working on that...

Re: Status [Debaser]
Thanks for the advice guys.
I’m back with a new OS, and zero movies.
Its going to take me weeks to load whats back-up, but I have lost tons.
HDD's all reformatted.
For some reason I cant transfer files from primary to slave without leaving a ghost of the original file on the primary drive, and neither the ghost of transferred file are playable.
Unplugging the computer appears to fix that each time.
Oh well, f***it.... Its almost a perfect computer again, and that’s all I can ask for.

Re: Status [Debaser]
Yet another problem with the computer
On Saturday I had a flashing orange light on my power button, and the computer would not power up.
I tried unplugging the power (many times), but still nothing!
Now I have no flashing light at all, and the computer is dead.
A mate told me on the phone that the power supply is probably dead, but who the hell really knows??
I do know that the city I live in has had power blips for the last month, so maybe my computer has been fried.
I don’t foresee me being back here until next month, because...
1. My computer doesn’t get left in repair shops
2. I’m broke (my car is on its deathbed as well).
I am thoroughly pissed off.
See you all some time next month I hope.

Are you sure you're not in UNLUCKY TIME???
So btw i think too is the power supply...i suggest to you to buy a power supply with PFC control... i have one of 700W PFC and it works in "GOD" mode

Re: Status [Debaser]
I’m back until the next thing breaks
My computer technician friend supplied me a new power supply.
He explained to me that Dell Power supplies are pieces of junk.
I have no idea what the new one is, all I know is that its 100watts more than the old one, a high voltage drain (sounds like it will do my elec bill the power of good lol), and it regulates how much energy it consumes.
Oh and my computer case no longer makes a vibrating noise

Re: Status [Debaser]
Further to my comments in the shout box.......
Well, im afraid I just came home with air display pics!
Ok, that’s not so bad because I am a bit of an anorak when it comes to aircraft.
I think I was lacking in the confidence department when it came to photographing “other stuff”.
The thought of being caught was not appealing.
Still, I have good memories.
Something funny happened while shopping in town today though....
I was chatting with a friend in the High street when this hand suddenly grabbed my arm and started pulling me.
I turned around to see this rather cute young girl (amazing tanned pins) trying to pull me towards her.
As it turns out, she was autistic and her older sister who was holding her other hand explained that she thought I was her dad.
Needless to say I was a human tripod for the rest of the morning!!
