Number of Source Downloads
Number of Source Downloads
I download lotsa stuff beside FLMs... but I think I did something in Options, because I can only have 10 Download sources listed at the same time. Does anyone know how to set Emule to handle more tasks than just 10?
Re: Number of Source Downloads
Which client are you using? I believe there is a setting to 'hide sources with high QR'. Look for it.
Re: Number of Source Downloads
I'm using eMule v0.48. However, downloaded eMule PRO Ultra3 ver 0.48a this afternoon, just in case.
I don't understand what you mean by "hide sources with high QR." Where would I look?

Re: Number of Source Downloads
To hell with eMule 0.48! Few days ago I installed a Mozilla FF 3beta, then the browser terribly slowed down, so I checked what might be the problem. So I disconnected gradually all applications, among them of course eMule. Problem was discovered in uTorrent, but since this time I am with eMule on such slow download speed, around 300-400 B/s! I know I have a low ID issue, but even then I was on much bigger speed before. And of course, my upload speed hasn´t changed at all, couple of people is sucking from my shared folder! Well, let them enjoy, but isn´t it a bit unfair? Usually I let my PC with eMule work whole weeks without any interruption, but this one was a must, to discover a bug.
Re: Number of Source Downloads
It is very important to set up your upload speed correctly and conservatively. All transfers are handshake based, with requests and acknowledgements going in the opposite direction to the main transfer. So, for good downloading, you must have some spare uploading capability, otherwise your downloads will not be serviced properly and downloading speed will suffer.
So, start with an upload speed of 10KB/s (with unlimited download speed). Now, when you start downloading steadily (download graph fairly horizontal), increase the upload speed a little at a time and observe the download graph. When the download graph starts getting peaky and jagged, reduce the upload speed to the previous step and leave it there. That is your optimal upload speed while downloading at the same time.
When you are using other apps at the same time, keep in mind that the TOTAL upload speed should not exceed this optimal value. Reduce upload speed appropriately when running other apps, eg. torrents. If you must use torrents and emule together, suggest you use Azureus instead of uTorrent as that allows you to tweak the settings better. Key word here is total (or combined, if you prefer).
You should also run the tcpip.sys patch that I mentioned in a previous post.

Thanx for advices, Emuler!
Re: Number of Source Downloads
For have more sources is necessary to be "Releaser"???
Re: Number of Source Downloads
Not sure what you mean... when you release a file, you are the only source for that file. Then others get the parts and become sources too.ARTHORIUS wrote:For have more sources is necessary to be "Releaser"???

Mmmmh
Cause when i've installed eMule the wizard ask me...a question similar as...
"If you want most soucers turn off the switch on "Releaser"

Re: Number of Source Downloads
If you are releasing a file, then your focus is on uploading, not downloading. I'm assuming that setting has to do with that - your client will not allow so many sources to queue up that your uploading becomes poor.
Depending on the speed of your connection, you should see to it that the total number of clients seen by your client is not too much - a couple of thousand sources is plenty for fast connections; for poor guys like me - about 400 is the most I can handle comfortably.
You can control it by adding more files if too low, and pausing, stopping, or even temporarily removing files from your downloads list. If you have too many users queued up waiting to download your files, you need to unshare some of the popular files.
I still haven't downloaded Beowulf - the files I want have 15000 sources each, which totally swamps my connection.
