Well I guess I am different. I find the idea of having to reformat my C: drive... horrifying. I have too much installed, both work-related and recreational, to get back to where I was in any reasonable time. I have never reformatted, even my Win2K machine I got in 2000 which I still use. I would rather put up with some performance degradation. I try to be careful with what I install, and I turn off services I don't need and uninstall stuff I don't need, and that helps reduce the performance degradation. I also defrag occasionally, that helps a little. I do find it takes longer to boot up these days but some of that is the tendency of newer versions of software to place more demands on your system.

Not always. If you use the saved-sources setting you mentioned, and you can reconnnect to your sources quickly enough, then you won't lose your place in their queues for a simple reboot.

By "quickly enough" I mean less than an hour. When you are in someone's queue you are not connected to them continuously. You connect, find out your queue position and then disconnect. You then wait 28 minutes (or so) before checking again, twice that if that source had no parts for your to download. eMule only drops a client from the queue if it hasn't been heard from in an hour. So if you want to do a simple reboot, and can do it in under half an hour, and you saved your sources, you stand a very good chance of keeping your queue positions.

Thank you emuler, can you tell me where precisely is to find this setting "save/load sources"? I have failed to find it on my own.

buy Norton ghost or some other imaging software...that way you only have to reformat once.
but make sure you keep your important stuff on a portable hard drive and do a restore of said image.

Make sure you keep your important stuff on a portable hard drive and re-install. I do this about every
4mths. I know its not fun but it has to be done.
