Temp files...

Post by kev »   0 likes

I was wondering if there was anything that converted ed2k Temp Files into regular media files [mpg, avi, wmv, ect.]. I've got some files that just aren't loading and I want to get them off the machine, but I'd like to keep what I have. (If that makes sense..;) )

Anything out there that can help me do that?? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

:pray

Just copy the .part files (the big ones) that you want to keep to a different folder and rename them to the desired extension (eg. rename 002.part to incomplete clip.mpg).

Then you can cancel the downloads to get rid of the other small files.

YIPPEEE!!

Much thanks, emuler! Worked like a charm. I've done that before with some pix, changing the code from .bmp to .jpeg or something like that, but I didn't even think about doing the same thing with the video parts...

Coolio!

Thank you, thank you!

I don't even bother to rename them; VLC plays .part files and tries (often unsuccessfully, but it at least tries) to deal with the missing parts. I think VLC uses the .part.met file too to tell what parts are missing.

Here's what I do: if I want to keep the file easily available (but I need the space on eMule's drive) I copy xxx.part and xxx.part.met files to an NTFS partition, where I compress it. That way a 50% downloaded 700MB file only takes 350MB in real disk space. If I archive it to a backup DVD I will probably zip it up so it also only takes 350MB.

I also occasionally shut down eMule and turn compression on for long-waiting xxx.part files so they take less disk space.

I also copy the ed2k link to the clipboard before deleting it in eMile, then after deleting the partially downloaded file I paste it back into eMule in an "Incomplete" folder. I also rename it to show what % I already had, e.g. "[38.9%] Vinnare Och Förlorare.avi". Then occasionally I can easily check in eMule to see if there are now full sources. This doesn't work very often, but as you've seen sometimes long-dead files get a source for a while.
