New update
New update
Hi all,
Fucked up again, I updated the new emule 49a and it changed my temp files.
After the update I load some new titles and then realized that it wasn't in my
regular temp file. So I tried to transfer them over which didn't work.
I then transfered the file into my temp file and loaded up emule, and all I get
is the part files and no names of the files to be downloaded.
There is no files in my transfer section but all the files are in the shared
folders.
Any ideas on how to rectify this cock-up would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Re: New update
Whenever you update, make a backup copy of your config folder.
Try the import function under the tools menu. Point it to the old temp folder and see if it recovers anything.
Remember, the temp files are in sets, eg. 005.part, 005.part.met, 005.part.met.bak, etc. You MUST move these together as a set. Moving just the .part file isn't going to do you any good. The entire set must be kept together. You can re-number them if you like, but re-number the entire set, not just one or two files.

Re: New update
Possibly you installed the program to a new directory, so it never even picked up your old config or old temp directory. If so you might even be able to go to the old eMule program directory and run that version.
The file which has all the links you want is in the eMule program directory, called downloads.txt. You may have problems if you've added new downloads though, since the xxx.part and part.met filenames may have been reused, you would need to delete the new ones or rename the old ones.

Re: New update
Hope i can help you...I was your same problem....and i was 2 temp folders but only one can choose to d/l then i've tried one thing.
Files are named *.met when the * is a number. When you pass the mouse on it write the name of the movie you're downloading.
If you in the old temp you just have the same number you can change the number and then add in the new temp folder and when you restart eMule you can see all files in downloading windows
If you're not convinced more you can do the backup of all files. but trust me function at 100%

Re: New update
Geeze, I wish I was more technical minded so maybe I could understand what's going on here...
The biggest thing I'm confused about is how there's a problem in the first place: Every time I've updated emule it's never screwed with my temp files. As far as I can tell, it's never screwed with anything...
To be honest, after I've downloaded the update the only perceptible change noticeable to me is the fact that it quits telling me there's an updated emule available every time I start up...
THAT's how seriously UN-technical minded I am.
All this to raise the now-paranoid question; SHOULD I make a copy of my temp file [or any of the emule files] BEFORE I download any updated versions of emule [when I've never had any problems in the past]?
My fear is that in some 'Murphy's Law'-ish sorta way, NOW that I know there can be problems in performing a seemingly normal function as in updating something like this, I WILL start to have problems like this...
Damn OCD-paranoia!!
Anyway, good luck rmt@36 in getting everything sorted out...
kev.

Re: New update
LOL kev.
Always a good idea to make a copy of your config folder. It contains your identity (which is what credits are based on) and your settings (preferences.ini and other files). Make a copy, zip it and email it to yourself (webmail, eg. Gmail, or leave a copy on the mail server). If your hard disk goes bye bye, you can still get back your configuration.

Re: New update
Well with the help here I got most of it fixed, I still lost some stuff but not sure what it was and I had to delete it to go on.
It seems I lost all of my credits friends list and others. So I will be starting from scratch, luckily I did not loose everything, and I will work on trying to find out what I did lose.
Thanks for all of your tips.
Next time I will be smarter, when I update (if I update) in the future.

Re: New update
For the future I will repeat a tip I have said before.
If you have orphan xxx.part files, and don't know the ed2k links, but are sure that they came from here, there is a way to find them.
This works assuming you have eMule option turned on which causes eMule to pre-allocate the full file amount at the start of the download. This is a good idea in general because it causes less disk fragmentation and improved eMule performance, and it keeps you from running out of disk space mid-download.
Get the exact filesize of the partfile, in bytes (e.g. 733868032, not 733.0MB or 733,868,032). Then just use the FLM search to search for that number. Any topics on FLM with links to files with that size will show up. Then use some of the info earlier in this therad to get them back into eMule.
For a while there I had frequent crashing and corruption, and using this tip and a couple of others I never lost a partial download.
