If you have Nero you probably have Nero Vision or Nero Vision Express, which can do what you want.

I apologize sincerely for asking the question which for sure has been handled in FLM, but my PC illiteracy brought me again in troubles. I´ve recently downloaded a torrent which turned to be a bunch of files in several formates, including VOB. How can I bring them together and convert them in any player friendly formate? Thousand thanks for any advice, this time I´ll store it in a safe place to not bother you in future.

If the other files are .IFO and .BUP files, you have a DVD (probably aleady decrypted) in its individual files, rather than combined into a single .ISO image.

Try opening it with VLC, using the "Open Directory" menu option. If it's possible VLC will show the DVD menu and allow you to navigate and play the DVD. This doesn't always work, sometimes torrents only include part of the DVD to save space and leave out the files needed to reconstruct the actual DVD. VLC can play .VOB files directly, too, though sometimes the interlacing makes it look bad.

Also, Nero can usually turn them into a playable DVD, I think the option is "Video Files" or something like that. Even if you don't have all the .IFO files for full DVD menus Nero can probably build something out of them.

Well, I´m still in doubt what to do. Which file(s) I have to open in VLC? There was no problem with VOB files, I´ve been able even to join them, but it doesn´t work, for playing it seems to be necessary to include also other files, in BUP and IFO formates.
Concerning Nero, for burning etc. I use Burn Aware Free, it contains also such features like "Burning an ISO image" or "Burn DVD-Video files" but again, when starting this latter one, I got the message "Not enough space" (on "normal" DVD).

That probably means the original DVD was 2 layer, and you need a dual layer DVD-R to write it directly. If the total size of the files is over 4,700,000,000 bytes then this is the case.

When I come across a dual layer DVD I use DVDShrink to shrink it to small enough to burn on a single layer DVD-R. If you confirm this is the problem I can point you to that program.

Using VLC, under the File menu, select "Open Directory" and then choose the directory where all the IFO, VOB etc files are. If VLC can recognize it as DVD files it will play the DVD, including the menus. You can actually use your mouse to click on the menu options to navigate the DVD.

Well, fine, I obtained a file which plays perfectly in Windows Media Player, but in no other media player. WMP is good, but I have troubles to adjust the sound there. WMP seems to be a default media player on my PC, is it somehow possible to change it? I´d love to be able to play it in another player, e. g. GOM. Again a PC-idiot question, isn´t it?

Right click> choose program> find the desired program in the list (if it is not there, browse for it), check the box that says 'always use the selected program to open this type of file', then click OK.

When I want to create an .avi, I use VirtualDubMod. It accept .vob and you can choose ouput sound (you need mp3 codec) and video codec ouput. Note than mpeg and avi are different. MPEG 1 are bad quality and need lot of space for keeping correct quality. MPEG 2 is same than used by all .VOB. MEPG is common codec/container. You can read it with all DVD reader.
Divx or Xvid are codec for avi container. You need DVD reader with codec Xvid or Divx included for read it.

nero works that way but takes 3hrs but worth it to watch the movies and tv shows you burn.
