Philips = quality

Not to worry Debaser. It'll take awhile for that to actually hit me.

The proof is in the pudding!

Sony is certainly one of the worst!
I worked in TV & Audio at House of Fraser during my college years, and more Sony products were retuned faulty (especially TV's) than any thing else.

Phillips made the most reliable TV’s, and Toshiba the best DVD players.

The problem is, some people confuse certain brands with quality.
That mate is called marketing.

The only expensive brand that from experience is the best is Bose, which thrashes the pants of Bang & Olufsen. B&0 opting for style only.

That's definitely not because they were Sony. It most probably because the user didn't know how to handle them. Electronics is also my profession and I also used to repair such devices. I had (TV, VCR) and still have some Sony home equipment (A/V receiver, PS3) and I never had any problem or repair with them.
As a european guy I would say, compared to any other brand, Philips is no better than anything else. Quality stuff is known to come from Yahama (at least A/V receivers), Denon, Harman Kardon or Bose.

Well I certainly cannot compete with that!
I am simply going by the volume of returned Sony goods, and im pretty sure House Of Fraser don’t sell knock-off goods (one hopes anyway).

I agree.
I certainly don’t want to give the impression that I think Phillips are top-end, but from experience have had no trouble with any of the products… I have an 8 year old Philips portable TV in the bedroom that certainly had its fair share of knocks, and it still runs like it did when new.
These days many people don’t keep anything long enough to know just how good a quality a product is anyway.

Totally!

I have a HiFi separates system which is now (and I cant quite believe it!) 20 years old.
It’s a mix and match of Denon, Mission & Technics, with B&W speakers.

Now that’s proof in the pudding
