Actually, the whole problem has arisen because this site is registered in the DNS as both http://www.first-loves.com AND first-loves.com. Both URLs point to the same IP address. We need to separate the two.

Maybe if we can have a simple web page at http://first-loves.com containing just the link to http://www.first-loves.com the visitors currently coming here from first-loves.com will go to that page instead and have to log in here from http://www.first-loves.com

For the links it is a fairly simple matter to replace http://first with http://www.first :dance

Let us see what FLL has to say. He seems pretty savvy about this kind of stuff. :clap

Exactly. How many times has this come up, yet Amadeus was completely clueless about it?
At some point I will try to figure out how to resolve the www links problem (if there is is a solution), until then or until someone else figures it out, we're going to have to live with it.

On another note... piling on a relatively new and inexperienced poster, who is trying to contribute a little but doesn't know his way around this place, isn't very nice, and I don't like it. :wall

I fell in love with her that day. I was 12. I STILL go ga-ga over little blonde girls.
I was just a bit ahead of you, it was seeing Napolean and Samantha that did it for me... and Tom Sawyer wasn't mentioned because it was posted elsewhere, because it is easily findable and well known and not a "rare" movie. I'll add a note about this to that thread when I get a chance.

What piling on? I just said three words to the guy - no yelling, no flaming, nothing. :(

I think we need to talk to our hosting service for this. Usually the DNS has to be told whether or not you want both versions.

The problem is that if we do this, everyone who has bookmarked the non-www link will get a 'not found' error. Hence the need to host another page that will tell such users what to do to find our site.

In my opinion that is a poor solution, and I think there is a better one.

Yes, and i think there are bigger problems in this world.

Would be nice to resolve the www thing, but it isn't really important to me.

I tested two other forums I visit often.

In one, changing the www made no difference. I stayed logged in.

In the other, deleting the www and pressing 'enter' automatically reinserted the www. Here too I remained logged in.
