1. Tools> options> content. Block popup windows.
Click exceptions and add the sites from which you want to allow popups.

Get the addons AdBlock Plus and NoScript.

2. View> Sidebar> bookmarks.

Personally, I prefer the bookmarks toolbar. Just drag any bookmark onto the toolbar for instant access.

While you are at it check these out Debaser - Mozilla addons for FF 3 :-

FEBE - allows you to schedule (or backup on demand all of your FF components (e.g. bookmarks/config files etc)

Quickjava - enable/disable Java/Javascript by clicking a button - REALLY useful.

Downloadhelper - THE best download addin for picking up embedded files - like YouTube.

Greasemonkey - install this then go to userscripts.org (I think) to open up a world of useful little scripts - be careful to read reviews before installing a script as they can be malicious !!

Enjoy

BTW - NTIBackupNow is also really good for backing up and compressing a whole drive - you should be able to do this in relatively short time, and should do this each time you make a significant change to system.

Already done that!
Go to Anonib and see how well that works :(

I wasn’t going to bother, but now iv tried it, its actually pretty cool, and by making bookmark names smaller, you can fit more in the toolbar :thumbsup

Browse a few boards on anonib, and perhaps post a reply to a thread.
I cant tell you how many times I have tried blocking a poker page that keeps popping up, not to mention other shit.
That’s with the blocker on, and even doing that TOOLS\PAGE INFO\PPERMISSION thing, which appears to do as little as the popup blocker function.
Sure I see the message that 4 popups were blocked, but it doesn’t stop all the pages.
Perhaps that’s how it is??

If a popup is created when you click a button, then that action is built into the site itself. You'll just have to live with it. E.g. Netload.

However, automatic popus are blocked very effectively. :thumbsup Gone are the days when simply visiting a site opened up several dozen popups, closing each of which would cause even more popups to, er, popup. :wall
