Minimum data to be burned in a session

Post by emuler »   0 likes

Is there any limitation that a certain minimum amount of data must be burned in a session while writing to CDs and DVDs.

I've had trouble with this. If I burn a movie and the subtitles together as data files to a CD or DVD, everything is fine.
But if I just burn the movie, and later try to add the subtitles in another session, the disc becomes unreadable.

However, if I put a small movie clip or short, say 50MB, along with the subs so that the total amount of data to be written on the second session is something reasonable (not the ridiculously tiny .srt file), the process works. :) Finally, a good use for some of the shorts posted here. :dance (kidding)

Does anyone have more information?

probably you are using a disc that is not rewritable or your software you are using to mount the data might be closing out the session. if it is not a dvd rw you can only burn data to the disc once. i don't know for sure but this is a problem i have had in the past.
if you are just burning data or makings a image file i have been happy with imgburn. hope this helps :)

No, that's not the problem. This is multi-session writing.

1. Burn movie to CD or DVD.
2. Add other stuff in next session.

Step 2 fails if the data to be added is small. No problem if I include the srt along with other files so that the total data to be burned in that session is several MB.

Say I download a movie from here. I burn it to CD using the multisession option.
Later, I find the subs in .srt format.

Problem is, if I try to burn the .srt file to the CD (continue multisession) the operation fails and the CD becomes useless.
However, if I include a short clip along with the .srt file, now the total data to be burned is larger (size of the clip + size of the .srt). The second session is burned without problems.

On a DVD, there is usually plenty of room left over from the previous session. With a CD things are tight. I have to copy the avi from the CD to the HDD, then take a blank CD and burn the avi and the subs together to that.

I'm using Nero 7.5.9.0 and this is the only problem I have with it.

I daresay you are talking nonsense...

@emuler: just made a multisession dvd+r with Nero 9: first burning "Diep" (712mb), later burned the subs (34kb). Everything works fine. Could be user fault :) or old OS (older than Windows XP) or hardware problem (old DVD burner).
