Best newsgroup provider?

Post by katzenjammer »   0 likes

For some time i've been using easynews, but want to migrate. Looked at giganews. Do any of you have any recommendations on good providers?

I like the easy webinterface and zipmanager of easynews, and wonder if any of the other provides something the same?

Thanks for all replies.

Same here, and I'm fed up with EN too. Been wanting to ask the same question. :think

I had access to easynews through a friend's account. It was good for awhile, but in the past couple of months some of our favorite newsgroups are being spammed with porn clips, trojans, or just shut down entirely. One group had 120000+ posts, yet when you click on the group to check it out, a message pops up saying there are no multimedia files there.
I decided to check out giganews about a week ago. One offer gives you 10GB downloads and a 200 day file retention for $7.99. This also includes a 14 day free trial. The drawback is that you do need to get your own newsreader. Giga gives you a link to a reader made especially for their service, but after a small freetime you have to ante up for it. Service wasn't bad, but there wasn't much I found that woul convince me to stick with Giga, so I cancelled after two days.

I am at astraweb. They really have all groups (giga censored some groups a couple of months ago), very long retention, fast speed... The best one for me.

I've been with Giganews now for over a year..........no fuck-ups & they leave me alone.......I like that!
Plenty of free newsreaders around so that isn't a problem.......Grabit seems to work well & joins everything including using Quickpar.
Giganews are also gradually rolling out 365 day retention, not immediately but on a daily basis.
Only downside for me is cost........the weakness of sterling makes anything in dollars or euros rather expensive. :wall
