Re: Status [loverboy]
i have lost 4 computers in 8 years all to virus related issues. very painful. my first one i lost some personal pictures from a few trips. but over the years i have backed up many times over. i use only external hard drives and dvd. my computers are only used for processing(no saved data). i figure if i have to find a new program due to computer failure that there is probably a newer better version out anyway.
i hope it works out for you. good luck

yeah, good luck, loverboy!
Re: Status [loverboy]
Thanks for your concern, help & well-wishes guys. An update...........
Infection was from a CD I had been given to update Microsoft Office. I virtually always check anything before either executing or installing but didn't on this occasion as it was from a trusted source. The virus was pretty obviously lurking in the installer as the spectacular results were instantaneous.
This is a catastrophic virus, hijacking your machine & attaching itself to any executable files it can find & many critical Windows system files. 'Total Meltdown' is a good description of what happens to your system.
Removal seems virtually impossible with the only sensible option being a format & clean install.
I now have a clean, quick, streamlined but empty system having saved only data, image, music & video files which have been scanned numerous times on a different machine. All previous applications/programmes/software have been wiped. I'm now starting to rebuild (nervously).......it will be a slow process but hopefully eMule will be back up & running again shortly.
Cheers.....lb

My heart goes out to you.. That was exactly what I experienced a few months ago, so I [REALLY] feel your pain..loverboy wrote:..All previous applications/programmes/software have been wiped. Best of luck getting things re-installed and cooking again!
kev.
Re: Status [loverboy]
Well that was actually less painful than I thought it was going to be....
All up & running again now other than eMule tweaks & some applications I'm bound to have overlooked that I'll install as & when required. Biggest problem was sourcing older versions of applications I use........being a creature of habit I prefer what I know works well & am comfortable with & don't necessarily want the latest versions that quite often have nothing more than a new 'cool' interface. I've also backed up all my applications to DVD so in the unfortunate event of this happening again I won't have to scour the internet to find them.
I'll need time to identify & allocate friend slots as this has been a fresh eMule install.
It could have been worse.............

Very glad to hear
Re: Status [loverboy]
Is it just me or does everyone experience grief with these wretched machines?
Primary PC at home has 'died', crashing overnight a couple of days ago & subsequently refusing to boot, in fact refusing to do anything other than cycle the fans on & off for about a second at a time.
Being a relatively new high-spec machine I consider it's worth investigation & probably repair even though I suspect a major hardware failure. I've put it in for repair (with hard drives removed!) & am awaiting their diagnosis.
I have internet access & can participate in the forum from an old stand-by machine but am unable to share/release except those files being shared on the loverboy2 eMule account.
Wish me luck!

Re: Status [loverboy]
Ouch!
Best of luck with the repair. Hope it was under warranty.
Re: Status [loverboy]
Sadly not.......this was a custom build of just over a year ago. I have all the boxes & documentation but no receipts for components. The repair shop has a fixed diagnostics charge & I'm prepared to spend a certain amount of money before giving up & replacing.emuler wrote:Hope it was under warranty.
Thanks for the well-wishes.
