I'm usually an early adopter, but this time I'm just too busy to live on the bleeding edge. Haven't even looked at the hardware requirements and driver support. But the moment I get a breather I'll go for it. Provided I find it at STF, of course. :cool

Yea i know what u mean..

But actually i havent had any proplem with it so far.. beside the fact that with the first RTM Release like 2 month be4 i had the proplem that there was no drivers for the RAID controller of my MABO... but it was pretty easy to modify a Vista one..

The Cool think is that i have seen 7 running even great on Netbooks like the Acer EEEPC and such things.. so i actually think it could be a real replacement of wndows XP...

I've been running the RC for awhile because I have to support it. I'm not impressed. Tons of glitz you can't turn off, a huge memory hog, everything moved around for no good reason, wizards and icons and bears, oh my! I've been building and repairing computers since '81 and I must be an old fogey because I'd trade all the glitz for more speed in a heartbeat.

If MS spent as much time making actual improvements instead of adding more glitter... Win7 is just same ol' same ol', and MS's inability to really fix prior versions doesn't give me confidence they've done it right this time. Internet Explorer has had bug fixes every freakin' month for years - just fix it, for cryin' out loud. That would impress me.

I have to support Win7 but I don't have to like it. Thank god for virtual machines - I can run Win7, Linux, Server 2008, and several other OS's simultaneously without screwing up the base XP install. I won't switch completely to Win7 until I have to.

Yea well.. actually they had to make all this improvements in the glitter u know...

I still like my mac better than the Win Machine but at least now with win7 im able to work on it.. like all the photo editing and converting was just possible in mac be4 .. now atlast PS CS4 got all this CUDA support and stuff so that u can work acceptable on windows with it...

Im not a big supporter of MS u know..

The only thing with the windows Vista/7 thing is that all this *NIX stuff advanced that far that it really got an alternative of windows. and thatfor windows as on turn.. thats why they had to launch Vista.. which was actually never being planed to release.

The other thing is that they wanted to see the new Winserv2k8 which is pretty much compatible with the windows 7 stuff with application sharing and terminal sessioning and stuff like that...

So to me.. MAC is till the only real OS because windows is just too fucked up..

yea and to your IE thing... IE( is just a piece of shit.. i suggest everybody to get either OPERA or FF .. well there is 1 thing which is even worse than IE.. which is Google Chrome

I was thinking about Windows 7 but on seeing this I'll give it a miss... I'm a bit old fashioned too when it comes to PC's! There are many new gimmicks and gizmo's I'm only beginning to entertain now because there isn't any choice anymore!

There are a lot of advanced things that are supposed to work better in Windows 7; stuff like media streaming, virtualisation, advanced networking options, etc. Since many/ most of these improvements will not make it to the older OSs (M$ has no incentive to do so), I suppose I'll be dragged screaming and kicking to Windows 7 eventually.

Talking of bad browsers, wait till you experience Internet Explorer Enhanced Security Configuration (enabled by default on server OSs). :wall :wall :icon_evil2 :icon_killcomputer :bomb :icon_1idiot And is there a simple button to enable/disable this 'feature'? Of course not. :icon_evil2

From a personal point of view, I have no reason to get rid of XP because it’s worked flawlessly for a few years now, and if it works why change it?

Because Microsoft will end-of-life it within six months, which means no more updates, fixes, or support. Kicking and screaming or walking tamely to slaughter, you ain't got no choice. The only reason XP wasn't EOL in 2007 is the big corporations told MS they'd drop Windows for Linux or Mac because they had a huge hardware investment that wouldn't run MS's latest bloatware.

Advanced networking options, my ass. What used to be a simple process to join a computer to a domain or workgroup got way more complicated. Their "wizards" sure aren't Harry-Potter-class. I know Win7 will make me lots of money because the average home user isn't going to have a clue when they have to do something more complicated than turn it on, but it's headaches for me because Win7 won't "get out of the way" and just let me set it up.

MS has been dumbing Windows down so much it's downright stupid now. I detest freaking icons for everything instead of details, hidden file extensions, blocked access to folders or just plain hiding them (there are many I'd bet you never even suspected were there), a wizard for everything... In short, MS caters to stupid people rather than expect them to use just one brain cell.

Whew! Sorry for the rant. I know it sounds like I hate users, but I went to four sites in 12 hours today, and every problem was caused by stupid user tricks - no user brain cells were endangered. Most people aren't this bad, but I heard today (I'm not exaggerating and these were all on state-owned PCs):

"But I go to coupon sites all the time, and they never infected my computer before." :wall

"Yeah, it made a grinding noise for a couple weeks but it went away last week so I figured it fixed itself. Whaddya mean the processor melted? Well, fix it quick because I've got a deadline today and all my files are on it." :wall

"I installed the greeting card program I brought from home and now none of my printers work. Oh, and I can't get my movie DVDs to play." :wall

[after I deleted 2GB of background pictures because the HD was full and WinXP kept crashing] "Why'd you delete my pictures? I spent hours [of work time] finding and downloading them!" :wall

An OS is like a truck - it's purpose is to move a cargo (your programs), not to be an end in and of itself. The truck can have power steering, automatic transmission, and other useful things that make it more pleasant to drive or more efficient, but it doesn't need chrome spoker wheels, curb feelers, or fuzzy dice to let it do it's main job. Those gizmos just add weight and slow it down.

Win7 is "loaded" with fuzzy dice that are superglued to the rearview mirror so you can't remove them. Unfortunately, earlier Windows versions will eventually break down and get towed to the junkyard because you can't get parts for them any more - I bet you haven't seen a DOS 5.0 computer in many years. MS will stop making parts for WinXP soon and it will be in the OS junkyard in a year or two.

Not strictly true - as long as you have the latest SP (currently SP3) it will move into what is termed "extended support". This means there will be no more development, and only SECURITY fixes will be released. The extended support will be for some years - lets face it, they cannot leave their loyal patrons with that pile of poo VISTA now can they ?
