"CLASS NOT REGISTERED"
"CLASS NOT REGISTERED"
Hi All
It seems lately, when I communicate on FLM it is to ask questions on how to fix my laptop. I had finally had things were I was about to start
replying to posts (and I have a lot to reply to) and getting some movies ready to upload for christmas.
NOW:
I have a desktop that is communal use, and i have a laptop that i have been using for downloading lately.
Well I was downloading from emule and i left my computer on all night, I thought that I had turned of my automatic update, only to find that I did not.
So the other day While I slept, my laptop updated (my internet connection is wireless) and now I can not access my files or hard drive programs, all
I get is EXPLORER.EXE CLASS NOT REGISTERED.
I have tried some command prompts
also a patch
system restore and other things nothing has worked.
I was wondering if anybody had any ideas on how to fix this, pain in the ass problem.
The update was a windows update, I have vista and it is an acer aspire 5315.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Because I want to get back to preparing movies for upload, as the people here have given me so much.
Because of the success this year in getting movies, I need to update my top ten list. One of the tasks for the near future.
Thanks all
rmt

Re: "CLASS NOT REGISTERED"
Did the patch appear to install correctly and then have you reboot, or did it refuse to install? Tough to say more exactly when all we know is "it didn't work".
A couple of reasonable looking suggestions from http://social.technet.microsoft.com/for ... 5e64983c6/

Make sure that all instances of Windows Explorer are closed.
Go to Start/All Programs/Accessories, right click the 'Command Prompt' and select the 'Run As Administrator' option.
In the command prompt window, type the following command, exactly as shown.
regsvr32 ExplorerFrame.dll
Press Enter.
You should see a 'succeded' message. Close the command prompt.
Reboot the computer and try to open those components again.
If the command failed, it's possible that the ExplorerFrame.dll is simply corrupt. If this is the case, try the following.
Go to Start/All Programs/Accessories, right click the 'Command Prompt' and select the 'Run As Administrator' option.
Type the following command.
sfc /scannow
Press Enter.
This will run the System File Checker utility and replace any corrupt system files. This could take some time to complete, so be patient.
Re: "CLASS NOT REGISTERED"
Try reinstalling whichever was the latest service pack you had installed.
