I got this question in a private email and thought it would help to put it out for general reading.
I install emule 0.50 but the bars are still red and one (episode 4) is blue and don't dowloading anything. What should I do, because I am a big fan of this TvShow and I can't download it. Please tell me why? Thank's.
If you're already queued up to download something from me, nothing else you're queued up to download from me will show a source unless there are other sources out there. Also, if you have a lowID, your ability to download from multiple sources is a little lower because your eMule can't find the other sources. Let me pass on a few pointers to help you get up to speed.

1. Read the FAQs and newbie help. There's a lot of good information and tips on getting eMule running its best. Look on the main Forum Index for it. Until you get eMule working correctly with port forwarding, you'll always have a lowID and will be a lower priority in other people's download queues which means it takes a lot longer to download anything.

2. Don't expect blazing download speeds like you might find on UseNet or torrents. eMule doesn't work like that. It usually takes days or even weeks to download something rare, but that's the beauty of eMule - the rare stuff is there, even years after first being posted, unlike UseNet or torrents where you'd better grab things fast or they'll disappear. I've had files take months to download, but that just makes the anticipation even better. :)

3. Some people (like me) have limited bandwidth, which means it takes awhile to move to the front of their queue. Then, eMule normally sends about 9 MB of data before rotating to the next person in the queue, so even after reaching the front of the line, you're not going to get the entire file in one shot, you have to wait until you're back to the front of the line. Obviously, the more sources for a file there are (the more people who share the same file), the more chances of reaching the front of somebody's line and the faster the download will complete.

4. Share something, preferably something people want. The more people download from you, the higher your "points" and the faster you move to the front of queues.

5. Don't be afraid to ask for help getting set up, but please read the FAQs first and try to do whatever you can before asking for help). When asking for reshares, don't go overboard - if your eMule won't even download yet, getting that fixed first is job one. Notice at the end of the link below where it says "sources info"? Click that and it will tell you if there are full sources available (at this moment there are two full sources). If there are sources and you can't download, either your eMule isn't set up right or you're not getting to the front of the queue because you're not sharing anything or you have lowID.

6. Stay online. 24/7 is best, but as much as possible if you can't do that. Restricting your upload and download speed so you can share bandwidth is a lot better than just shutting eMule down. Staying online lets you advance in the queues so you get to the front and get a chance to download. Going offline is like getting out of line - when you come back online, you go to the end of the line again. And staying online allows other people to download from you, for which your points go up and you get moved to the front of the queue faster. eMule is all about sharing - the more you share, the more people will share with you.

7. You must have patience on eMule, because you won't get instant gratification.

I think he's just over-eager. If any of these hints helps someone, I didn't waste my time, and since I posted the reply in a public forum instead of a private message, I won't have to repeat it.

I think that's probably fair enough. Posting in the Shout Box, the wrong thread & PM'ing half the board is overdoing it a bit. Reshare requests are fine & something to be encouraged but they should only be used for unsourced/incomplete releases & are not a quick fix for those unable to understand the concept of eMule or get it working properly.
History indicates this kind of request is usually quickly followed by a plea to upload to rapidshare................ :wall
