In 1942, in a Europe with fire and sword, Marietta Corn, a former teacher, collects orphans on her farm that the chances of war have left alone. It also hosts, in the greatest secrecy, Jewish children she then seeks to enter Spain to avoid their deportation. His former lover, Armand, a Jewish Alsatian engaged in the French army and now demobilized, visits him. Both had before the war, imagined that organization. But meanwhile, Marietta married a local notable, and although the latter died in battle, she refuses to reconnect with Armand and yield to his advances ...
