I always got the impression that she was running away from her parents. Why would she have... who knows? But it's kind of strange how the trial is only now taking place with the official reason being a
"question as to the sanity" of the kidnapper. In the mean time they've hidden her away in some french convent or someting like that for all these years, where no one could make contact with her. Just seems weird to me.
