AKA: The Book of Stone

ANOTHER gem directed by the prolific Mexican director Carlos Enrique Taboada [Veneno para las hadas (1984)]. This movie was made some 16 years before 'Veneno...' and is in B&W rather than color, but it's chilling none the less.

The IMDB link:

http://imdb.com/title/tt0242601/

This is a pretty good description of the movie:
This classic film tells the story about a little girl Silvya (Lucy Buj) that because of her behaviour is required to be nursed by a special teacher Julia (Marga López) at home,This teacher is experienced in the field and starts looking after the child´s behavior and her friendship with Hugo,a statue of a little boy with a book that dates 10,000 years old and supposedly talks to her and make her do things, Her wealthy father Eugenio Rubalcaba (Joaquin Cordero) is very disturbed about his daughters way´s and his new wife Mariana (Norma Lazareno) is trying to cope with her step daugters ideas but fears of the statue.
I have this on VHS, but I'm hoping that maybe the company that released 'Venenos...' on DVD will release some of Taboada's other movies, and THIS one [as well as 'Hasta el viento tiene miedo'] will be amoung them. Until then, I found this VHS rip:

Thanks mucho for finding all the subtitles you've been posting lately. I've passed on many of the films that didn't have them - didn't have a lot of luck finding subtitles for many of them and just said the heck with it. Much appreciated! :thumbsup

This was a mildly interesting "horror" flick. It has a little different feel from U.S. horror films of the time which was nice. I'm certainly jaded by the gore films between then and now so I don't consider El Libro scary but it had a few moments. Definitely download the subtitles - this is a talky movie and you'll miss most of fun without them (unless you speak Spanish, of course).

And the girl wears very short skirts. LOL
