Thanking Posters
a very good answer mimzy.
sad but true.
i was so pissed off at the non response to my australian tv series that i unshared them after upping approx 12gigs.
the reality is that things will most likely never change,it will always be left to the same few members to post comments.

Even though this is physically the old site it is very much a new one. Instead of hundreds each day looking at each new post we may only have a dozen. So responses are going to be low until people find the site.
The Valley Between is the upload I think you are referring to? I started that one when you posted but soon deleted what I had when I saw it going nowhere.
It was a choice of bandwidth for me. Each file was a large size 6 episodes all over a gig each. What I do so as not to waste my bandwidth or others is upload one at a time starting with the first episode. Once that one has other sources I move to the next taking the first out of my share folder and so on. Randomly I put the files I have shared back into my share folder to see if new people have entered the queue and share more to them. This way I have more bandwidth directed to one file instead of spread across several. Who is downloading from you can save bandwidth the same way. It is also why I usually only upload one release at a time.
Upload as you want this is just a suggestion I think will help.
Re: Thanking Posters
I did not comment "The Valley Between", because the caps did not look exciting for me and I knew nothing about the series, but I started to download anyway, so I could give a closer look, and reshare if anybody asks for it later. Now I don't know if I should keep the half-completed files or delete them... I think few other releases are in the same state.

my comments were not aimed at you Ptg,i refer to the members who take what's on offer but do not thank the uploader or even comment.ptguardian wrote:

i observed at least 1 member here who downloaded 4 out of 6 of the episodes without the slightest acknowledgement,he didn't get the rest of them and won't until i at least see a post from him.
this issue has been around for quite a while now.i know i'm not the only one who feels this way,but i'm completely fed up of the forum being kept alive by the same small group.
suggestion: a 'Thankyou' button
Re: Thanking Posters
I am one of the ones guilty of this, and for that I appologize. The main reason for this is that I felt I was clogging up the board with posts that did not contribute much. Before the old board went down, sometimes I had to wade through 20 or 30 new messages to find a post of interest to me. I have tried to be a good member by contributing when I can, I have captured and uploaded around 10 - 15 movies and contributed a few subtitles as well. I would contribute more if I could find more relevant movies that have not already been added. I really do appreciate what others contribute though I haven't usually thanked them, and now with so much less traffic, I don't have to feel I am jamming up the board with messages. Also, whenever I download something, I make sure that I share the file for at least a couple of months after I download it unless there are more than at least ten others sharing the file.starfish21 wrote: my comments were not aimed at you Ptg,i refer to the members who take what's on offer but do not thank the uploader or even comment.

I for one downloaded part of the Australian TV series. I didn't know anything about it and like yokodreamer, I wanted to take a closer look at it. I for one really appreciated the downloads and wish you would put them back up, and I will make sure I will express my thanks more often in the future.

Re: Thanking Posters
positive comments and opinions of movies could never 'clog up the board' and are always considered to be contributary
the best example of 'clogging' is multiple requests for reshares from one person, flooding the board with almost identical posts in a very short timespan.

Re: Thanking Posters
'Thanks' button is a 'mod' that requires significant changes to the board software and database, so it's a bit of work to install it and more work to *de-install* it if it turns out that "oops, that's not what we really wanted". So I'd like to hear other opinions.starfish21 wrote:suggestion: a 'Thankyou' button
Personally I'm not sure if 'Thanks' button would solve the problem.
- Pressing 'thanks' button does not bump the thread. A member sees how many times he's been thanked, but it's difficult to find which posts he has been thanked for.
- Pressing 'thanks' button would only take one second, so probably any active member would just click the 'thanks' button of any release. The value of a 'thank' would be very low compared to a value of a witty response (let alone a useful informative response or comment).
- On the other hand, the number of thanks (shown near the number of posts) might be a good indicator of appreciation and give releasers some aditional motivation

Hmmm, looking at the comments for that mod doesn't give me a lot of confidence - it could cause a lot more problems than it solves.

phpBB3 is written in a scripting language called php (of course
). The many scripts all interact in sometimes devious ways. Introducing any mods can be dangerous and make maintaining everything more difficult. We talked about adding things like Top Ten, Chat, Shoutbox, Statistics, etc. that were on the old FLM but decided to leave well-enough alone. I don't think it's wise to add anything unless it's truly useful such as mimzy's FLMSearch.
