We
are a much smaller group than before. Maybe some of the old-timers will return someday but we must move on and your suggestions are good ones.

This is true, though we certainly don't want to discourage anyone from releasing something even if it takes awhile. As long as we
know it's going to take awhile, we can decide whether the time will be worthwhile.

I fall into this category. I can't match you, starfish, loverboy, FLL, or any of the other great releasers but I can help the FLM community by keeping rare files alive. I unshare almost everything in my Shared Files" list with more than 3 or 4 complete sources.
ptguardian wrote:I would like it be said that you should not release something new until you have shared what you have already released. If you direct your bandwidth to one file at a time it will get completed by others faster and you will now have help sharing this file allowing you to move on to the next release.
Let me say this a different way. When you release something and you're the only source, UNSHARE EVERYTHING ELSE. If you only share the file you're releasing (plus whatever you're downloading at the time since you can't help that), everyone who connects to you gets part of your file and then helps spread that around. If you share your release and 500 additional files, the people who want your new release have to share your bandwidth with the people who want the other files.
It's easy to unshare and reshare files. Create a folder called "Unshare", move EVERYTHING in your Shared folder to Unshared except your release, go to eMule's "Shared Files" tab, then click "Reload". To share them again, move them from Unshared back to Shared and click "Reload" again.

If the source is Blu-ray or the release is very special and you want it shared in the best detail we will understand the larger size. For everything else keeping the file size down helps everyone for getting the file sooner and also sharing is easier(less bandwidth used). Also it takes up less hard drive space allowing for more releases.
Remember when large files were commonly split into CD-sized media? That's rarely done any more. I also remember downloading movies from Usenet 24/7 and still taking days to complete. I think as bandwidth increases, storage media gets bigger, hard drive space gets cheaper, and resolution gets finer - as they all will certainly do - all these restrictions will become less important. But for now, we should "remember the little guy" and try to get smaller files unless there's a good reason for larger sizes. If someone isn't sure how to do it, there are a lot of people on FLM who can help.
I'll add a few here...
Post On-Topic
If a movie only has kids in it as "window dressing" - they're irrelevant to the story, they're only on-screen for a few minutes, or the movie is only being posted because it has a minute of "on topic" scene, then the film isn't really an FLM movie. If the scenes with kids could be removed from a film without changing the plot, they are little more than props. They don't have to be the prime "stars" in a film but their role should be important to the story. If you're posting a movie merely because it has an OT scene in it, tell that in your post so people can decide whether it's worth their time.
Describe The Movie
When you release a film, put a description or synopsis in it so people will know if they're interested. You can use a synopsis from IMDb, Rare Film Finder, or any other source, but just posting a film's name doesn't make anyone want to download it.
* DO include the year the film was released and the country it was released in. There are many movies that have the same name - these details help pick out which one it really is, and if you're filling a [REQ]uest, helps the admins move the film to the right forum.
* DO include IMDb, RFF, and other links - often their reviews help decide if the movie is interesting or not.
* DO include screen shots if you have them. The "Add image to post" link in the message editor helps you upload them and puts their thumbnails in your post. People can click the thumbnail to see the full-size picture. Big pix are OK but thumbnails are preferred by a lot of people because it takes much less time for your browser to display them.
* DON'T post porn screen shots, CP or otherwise. If you're not sure, don't post it. Anyone who downloads the movie will see that scene anyway.
* DO comment on what you liked about the film, who is in it, or any other info you think might be interesting.
