Medicine Man (1992) [USA]

Movies that don't quite meet the requirements to be on-topic for FLM, maybe because the actors are too old or screen time is too small.

Medicine Man (1992)

An eccentric scientist working for a large drug company is working on a research project in the Amazon jungle. He sends for a research assistant and a gas chromatograph because he's close to a cure for cancer. When the assistant turns out to be a "mere woman," he rejects her help. Meanwhile the bulldozers get closer to the area in which they are conducting research, and they eventually learn to work together, and begin falling in love.
Again, not sure about this one, it came to mind when I posted 'At Play in the Fields of the Lord' ;) Incomplete at present :(

Rich, seems like you're going to post nearly every movie you know.
I've seen Medicine Man a couple of times, but I never saw an ontopic scene in it, yet I'm not sure if there's even a child in it...

Please keep this forum "nice and tidy", the overview is going to be lost with all the offtopic movies around here. The people will get bored and leave the forum if they download and download movies and get disappointed when seeing it, not to be ontopic at all.

One of my favorite movies and I have an excellent rip, if it belongs here at FLM or not this one is questionable so I will leave it to the elite dozen if I should post it.

infiniter's comments reflect his character. He often jumped on others with out knowing what he was saying. Ironically his idea of what should only be here is exactly the only thing this film has to offer to FLM. It is a great film to me, but not because of the children, they are just a bonus. (Natives of all ages running around in different parts of the movie in their usually state of undress). They are 'not' primary roles to the film, so this is a good place for the listing of it.

There are several version of this available on eMule right now so there's no reason to use up your bandwidth. There's even a 2 GB widescreen version out there.

Unverified but lots of sources.

Thanks Phuzzy. I like saving bandwidth.(I download a lot)

The question was whether it belongs or not? I did a full encode on this and I am willing to bet my rip is better than most out there. To me it looks as good as the dvd.

However I do have other stuff that I am going to release. If people do find this is wanted here I will gladly share my rip. ;)

I've never watched this film so I'll take your word for whether it should be Unverified or Release. Do the kids have more than a few minutes onscreen? Would cardboard cutouts have been just as pertinent? Was there anything first-love, coming-of-age, etc. in it? In a film like [RREL] The Emerald Forest (1985), the natives were absolutely essential and the film was definitely on-topic. In ADDIO ZIO TOM (1971) [Italy], the natives might have been essential but there wasn't anything FLM about it.

If you think this film should be moved to release, I'll believe you. :icon_thumbup1

'Verified off-topic' is the perfect place for this movie.

I've seen it, I have it, I love it! But like 'The Mission', 'At Play in the Fields of the Lord', 'Mosquito Coast, and other films where a part of the plot deals with the main characters in contact with native cultures; the children's roles (though somewhat OT due to scant clothing) are sparse and their 'coming-of-age' is obviously not the focus.

Not much screen time of the kids and happened to be part of the village they were doing their research. A couple good scenes where they are chasing golf balls and a few other various scenes running around like the jaybirds that they are.

I agree, not enough screen time and not part of the cast/story otherwise I would have posted it. In the past at the other site this would not have been in question, the kids naturalism in this movie is more screen time than several films that were posted and welcomed with cheers. I see this as a good turning point to a better direction by leaving it as off-topic. ;)
