Every 13-year-old girl dreams of that nice, but hard-to-get, boy. And Joppe is no different, consulting her friend on how to ask Brian out. But just how should she tell Brian that she was born a boy?
I can sympathize with Joppe's problems and attitudes have greatly changed in the past few years, but I think there'd be very few places that would allow the use of the opposite sex's changing rooms, no matter what gender a person believed themself to be. Apparently she lives in a very small town to only have a few other girls in her class, and their support and acceptance makes all the difference. Joppe seems to have a balanced outlook and definite plans for the future and I applaud her for it. She has a tough road ahead.
