isn't there anyone who would like to take over this forum?

What exactly is required Rich? If all that needs to be done is to update/maintain the forum in it’s current form then that is something I can do for sure :thumbup1:

you'd need to be willing to pay 8O a host to host this forum. i can't get access to ftp for this site so i can't back-up, so then you'd have to create a forum or get your host provider to create one which you can then edit to look like this one.

then the information would need to be copied from here (not the whole thread) just the initial REL/REQ post. into say a text file ready to be posted on the new forum. which we could all help to do by taking a Country each for example.

then once the new forum is created, i'll attempt to contact my current host and tell them i wish to transfer my domain name (first-loves.com) to your host. then the new forum can be uploaded there. then we repost the info.

what do you think?

Well financially I am not able to help sorry However anything technical I can help out with for whoever takes over, If I save every thread I'm fairy certain I can convert it all to any forum format you like, may have to set up a temporary forum for the transition though, but this is something I have done before, I wrote a few custom apps for the job 8)

Couldnt we just all contribute the monthly costs via paypal so your host can keep hosting the network...

Also instead of having an individual in charge of the site their could be a number of moderators all assigned various roles, whether it be moderating threads, updating/ editing the forum, answering PM's

I really like this idea... This can save a lot of work!

As I said, I would be willing to contribute with some time (moderating or anything else) and with some money to maintain monthly costs.

I think the cost must be across voluntary donation, not everybody can pay a fix cost, but if all of us want this project continue can make an effort to contribuit with money, help and knowledge, to keep it.


And if the money is more than sufficient. the remainent can be used to buy DVD's and tools to Rip them (after have any reserves).

Are you able to estimate roughly the amount of bandwith required to run this forum and how much it cost annually to pay hosting?

Not alot I paid £70 for the year, i'm sure this could be cheaper elsewhere though.

As i understand you write, there is no way of getting an update of this forum, or is it just that you by any reason can't manage to do this backup..?

it means my host is not reponding to my emails, and their website is non functioning, i have no way to access FLM via ftp.

As for my self i cant be the main operator of such an site like this because of my ongoing studies (no time sadly), but as for contributing to hosting-cost and so on, yes i can. Is it any easy way of doing simple html-backups of this site. If so, please post some instructions and i can get head on starting to backup the site. As for me i think it's of highest importance to retrieve/backup the full release/request-threads... I will do some testing of how to backup each thread later on this evening and tomorrow. If successful, this can be compressed into a rar-file that i post to my webspace for people to download.

great, you help backing up the site is more than welcome, perhaps you could upload the backup files to www.yousendit.com so we can each get copies?

my host is awol at the moment. i'd prefer one person to pay the small amount for hosting, as soon as the site starts accepting donations, it could start to make money and that wouldn't be a good idea. keeping it money free will keep it alive for longer

Btw, i found that i have some of the other requested movies in there as vhs-rips on some dvd's. Might be that i can release them later on when i have sorted out my hardware problems...

btw it's important to understand that there are members here that enjoy childhood movies and there are also members here find girls/boys attractive and that is why they like these movies. i personally have no problem with that, but a potential new host provider may have

Another thing to keep in mind is that there is some link in these pages that refer to an eDonkey file (emule). There is lots of country now that are doing legal action against these type of boards. So this forum can not be hosted anywhere too...

1- It could be badly interpreted as a site promoting child p***.
2- It could be badly interpreted as a site promoting copyrighted content exchange.

Is there some public foreign site where we could create a new "kinda" forum like this one? (Something like yahoo groups but that is not in USA).

Hell raises a very valid issue. There seems to be no limit to the stupidity of the powers that be. John Denver's song Rocky Mountain High was banned for a while because they thought the title promoted drug abuse.

badly interpreted would be correct, the films listed here are not exactly mainstream and the site doesn't host anything under copyright. let's hope they see FLM for what it is; a very small community of childhood movie lovers.

Have finished backing up the swedish section as well. The backups of the full threads are quite big, so the easiest way to share the bacups will be to share them over emule i guess. I will have the possibility to share them quite fast doing it this way. I will continue to do the html-backups of the other countries during this weekend. While doing the backups i have noticed that quite a few of the releases is dead, so at some point it can be interesting to make a reshare list
