Posting embedded youtube videos
Posting embedded youtube videos
HTML tags are no longer supported, but embedded youtube (and maybe other) videos can be posted using the [youtube] bbcode.
For example, if youtube gives the following embedded code:
[Code] it can be posted using:
[Code] Note that Flash/Javascript is a security risk for those who are using a proxy.

We need more examples, mimzy.
eg. how to embed this:
<iframe width="640" height="360" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/Sxo3Wib31 ... detailpage" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Re: Posting embedded youtube videos
It's been hit or miss with me lately, some of my embeds [from 'youtube'] would stick others wouldn't. But I knew there was probably a trick, and I think I have it figured out..mimzy wrote:HTML tags are no longer supported, but embedded youtube (and maybe other) videos can be posted using the [youtube] bbcode.

Your example w/out [c o d e] tags:
(Yay.. I did get it!! Yay, yay!! I love The Smiths!!
Oh, oh!! Lemme take this one, lemme take this one!!emuler wrote:We need more examples, mimzy.

The important thing is that the width/height numbers in the embed addy has to match the numbers you put in the beginning 'youtube' code tag.
IE: In mimz example in the embed addy the width="420" and hight="345". So the 'youtube' beginning tag read: [/code]
w/out the [ c o d e ] tags, you'll see:
Yay!! It's the new spooky movie that I just posted about!!
I wrote this in non-techno speak as my non-techno mind would interpret the numbers..
Thanks mimzy for the enlightening thread!

Re: Posting embedded youtube videos
Embedding videos can be a pain sometimes, but YouTube videos are pretty straightforward. It's always best to use the "Embed" button on the video's page to get the correct address to use.emuler wrote:We need more examples, mimzy.
eg. how to embed this:
<iframe width="640" height="360" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/Sxo3Wib31 ... detailpage" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
The YouTube tag has 3 parts: the opening tag with the video's width and height, the video's address, and the closing tag.
[Code] When I'm embedding a video, I copy what its web site gives me right into the FLM post for reference, then create what the board needs right below it. This is so it's all in one place and I can adjust things after using the Preview button - some sites use funky options that don't "translate" how you think they will. Once it looks right, I delete what I pasted before I click Submit.
[Code]
As you can see, I put the opening tag with the width and height, then the video's url without the quotes and up to but not including the first question mark (?), then the closing tag. The stuff after the question mark - "?feature=player_detailpage" in your example - modifies how the video is displayed and is usually unneeded and unwanted.
Incidentally, you can change the size if you want, but you should do it proportionally. For instance, here's the same video at half size: [Code]
Hopefully this explanation makes embedding a little clearer.
Re: Posting embedded youtube videos
Thanks, all.
I was trying to use the youtube= button but didn't know what this board needed.
LOL kev.

Re: Posting embedded youtube videos
Later additions:
1) At YouTube, click "Share" and THEN "Embed" THEN "Copy" for the full link.
2) I think that the width, height limit is 900,500 at FLM.
3) Some YouTube videos just refuse to be Embeddable and I am not sure why. You have to click a posted link and go to YouTube.
