I am back - partially
I am back - partially
Well - my internet computer quit working right a couple of months ago and I finally gave up on it. (It boots up just fine and everything works, for about 2 minutes and then everything freezes - I tried all kinds of things to try and get it running correctly. At first it would freeze but continue downloading as long as I left it on, but now it does not continue downloading anymore either).
I have decided to set my video editing computer up on the internet and have installed eMule on it - but I can only get low ID. I have gone through all the help files on FLM and eMule but still cannot figure out how to open the firewall ports to get KAD working - I have spent hours and pretty much tried everything.
So, anyway - I don't have any of my uploads shared any more. If there is something anyone wants, I will reload it off of one of my external hard drives, just let me know what you want. I don't have as much disk space available on this computer, so I don't want to just put everything back up.
Now I have a couple of months of new items to go through on FLM and start to download.

Welcome back, vidman49.
I was wondering where you were.
Have you checked the CPU and GPU temperatures? Sometimes a dead fan/dried thermal paste/dust clogging the air flow is all that's wrong. If that is fine, have you tried doing a clean install, formatting your C drive? I have found that to cure most software ills.
About your LowID - is this the same internet connection with which you were previously getting HighID on the old computer? I'm asking because sometimes it is an ISP issue that you can't do anything about. For everything else, we are here to help. Give us some details.

Yes - I had high ID on the old computer (most of the time). The temperature is fine - pretty much a new state of the art 64bit high end video editing computer. I went through Phuzzy's eMule settup instructions, and a lot of other stuff as well. I have a wireless router, but with the cat5 cable hooked up anyway - Norton antivirus firewall - went through all the help files there as well. NO LUCK!!
Also - since I pretty much have this computer for video editing only, I don't have a lot of programs on it and have been very carefull what I install, and until this week, it has barely been on the internet, so I would be surprised if I would need to reformat the C drive - and it is only about 4 months old

No, no... I meant the old one which keeps freezing. If it is a hardware issue, the temperatures are the first place to look. If it is a software issue, a clean install (with format) will certainly cure it, although most people do that as a last resort.
About LowID in your new computer:
1. if you have CAT5 ethernet cable connected, you can turn off the wifi in your new computer. Wired always trumps wireless. Go to network properties, find the wifi adapter and disable it.
2. Which router have you got? I vaguely remember you mentioning it before, but if you did, I've forgotten.
3. What is your internet connection setup? Where does the wire coming into your house connect? What does that connect to?

Re: I am back - partially
It's Sherlock Holmes time. The 2 minutes of working OK is a clue to heat problems but it could also be drivers or other software, so boot in Safe mode and let it run for awhile. If it's a name-brand computer, go to the support site and download the hardware diagnostics CD and run it. If they indicate a problem strip the PC down to bare minimum - mobo, power supply, ram, video. Turn it on, let it warm up. Still locking up? Mobo, case, and PS fans running? Dusty inside? Anything feel especially warm, anything look burned, any electrolytic capacitors with bulging tops? Add one thing at a time and retest until you find the culprit - or not.
No problems found on the hardware side? Just for grins and giggles, you might want to try a live-CD Linux distro like Ubuntu or Fedora. Download one, burn to CD, then boot from it without modifying the hard drives. If everything runs OK and you don't get any lockups, it's probably an OS issue. Reinstalling is no big deal, just time-consuming. You might even want to try out Linux, especially since you have another PC to fall back to.
For the lowid issue, make sure the PC uses static IP and the router has that IP in its port setups, both TCP and UDP. Finding where emule's being blocked can be a pain - temporarily turn off one firewall/antivirus/etc. at a time and disconnect/reconnect eMule. When you get highid again, turn each back on and adjust settings as needed.
Let us know if there's something we can help with.

Re: I am back - partially
I never did get my internet computer back up and running. I finally loaded eMule onto my video editing computer but was unable to get it up to high ID, no matter what I did. I went through all the help in the forum that helped me so much the first time I hooked up but nothing helped. Then I loaded VPN on my computer a couple of days ago and I went right up to high ID and it also hooked right up to the kad network without me doing anything additional. Now that I am finally fully back, I hope to start making a few more movies available again.

Congrats! I was kinda missing seeing Sarah.
Re: I am back - partially
Which flavour of VPN was this, vidman49? Maybe installing it fixed your routing table for you, or helped uPnP do what it is supposed to do, and I'd like to try if it works in other places with persistent LowID.vidman49 wrote:I never did get my internet computer back up and running. I am using privacy.io
Let me know if it works for you.
OPPS - I just noticed. My computer rebooted last night and now I am back to low ID. So far nothing has worked to get me back to high ID. I have tried changing ports, checking the firewall, etc.
No idea why I was high ID for one week, and now back to low ID.

Anyone familiar with manually setting up a VPN might like to try this & it's absolutely free! I'm sure I or someone else here will be happy to help with a more detailed setup instruction if necessary.emuler wrote:Which flavour of VPN was this, vidman49? PPTP Server ukpptp.hotfreevpn.com
User Name free
Password 1234
While I can't comment as to whether this will solve your specific problem I can confirm it works perfectly as I use it when out of the UK to access streaming content/filmon/iplayer or anything country specific.
There is also a US version with exactly the same login details but using the server uspptp.hotfreevpn.com although I've never tried using it.
