Everyone, please do not reply to any of the threads polluted by this joker until the admins delete all his posts.

Got it. This is the second time "it" has done this. I deleted the user, deleted its posts, and banned that username but it might not do much good. Just one of the things we have to put up with.

You could also block his IP address and/or MAC ID if the server logs have that information, although that too has limited effect. Still, better than not doing it at all, I suppose.

If it gets too bad we can consider going back to the captcha regimen we tried earlier. A bit of a pain, but effective.

We could also create a subset of trusted members; everyone else would be limited to 5 posts per day. If they urgently need to say something else, they can PM the admins.

Blocking specific IP's is useless - I get a different IP any time I disconnect/reconnect (which happens fairly frequently) so you'd have to block an entire range. Besides, many people use proxies, so if you block a proxy IP range, you can also block a lot of good users with the bad one.

We really haven't had a lot of problems and the admins have taken care of them quickly. If it gets too bad we can look at stronger measures but for now it isn't worth it. This kind of crap is a mere annoyance, not something to get excited about - that gives too much credit to the wankers doing it. Merely "the cost of doing business", so to speak.

What do you mean :think

We had a big problem with spam until we started to use reCAPTCHA, which is still in use. I hope Google updates it's algorithm if it has been cracked again...

Hmm.. I didn't know it was still in use. I don't get to see it - maybe I'm in a different group of users.

It is used when creating a new account or if you mistype your password several times.
