[REL] The Bow (2005) [South Korea]

Movies that don't quite meet the requirements to be on-topic for FLM, maybe because the actors are too old or screen time is too small.

Storyline

The Bow is set entirely on a rotting 40-foot boat anchored off the coast of Korea. An old man (Jeon Seong-hwang) maintains it as a fishing platform for tourists with the help of a beautiful 16-year-old girl (Han Yeo-reum) who appears to be mute. Visitors to the boat chat about the rumors. He brought her out when she was just six years old. Her parents are looking for her. He plans to marry her on her 17th birthday. The stories sound farfetched, as does the idea that the old man is also a fortune teller, but they all turn out to be basically true. She is everything to him: a kidnap victim/daughter/girlfriend/fiancée. The old man fends off the fishermen to who try to cop a feel by shooting arrows at them while the girl just smiles. He predicts fortune by shooting three arrows at a Buddha image on the side of the boat as the girl swings dangerously in front of it. The girl whispers in his ear and he whispers in the persons ear his fortune. She's not a bad archer either and is more than capable of protecting herself. When he's not wielding the bow as a weapon, the old man converts it into a musical instrument and plays it like a violin.
The old man's arrangements start to come apart when the boat is visited by a fishing party that includes a sweet-natured student (Seo Si-jeok) who falls in love with the girl at first sight and is profoundly concerned about her situation. She, too, falls for him, and the old man starts to fear that his marriage day, carefully marked on his calendar, may never come to pass. The student comes to take her away as her parents are searching for her still, but the old man tries to prevent them from leaving by shooting arrows at him but she stands in front. And tries to commit suicide. She returns and marries him. They each liberate a chicken as part of the ceremony. They leave on the boat to consummate the marriage. The student releases the hen but hits the cock but later releases it too. The old man starts to play his bow and the girl falls asleep. He shoots an arrow in the sky and jumps into the ocean. The boat returns to the student. But the girl acts as though someone is having sex with her and suddenly the arrow shot earlier strikes between her legs in the plank. She has an orgasm and bleeds. As they leave the old boat starts following them and after she waves sink. Then this message comes onscreen as an end note:
"Strength and a beautiful sound like in the tautness of a bow. I want to live like this until the day I die."

Does it need to be said anymore? Apparently yes

The girl/woman is born 1983 Yeo-reum Han

Why should anyone of us confirm if there is actually a child in this? None listed at IMDb, the trailer and all other pictures posted around the net. Where is the child Art? Picture please....

Just because 'you' think the girl looks young does not mean she is. Confirm it before you post it or do not post it. 16 or Younger is the cut off.

Thanks

Off--topic until Art shows us otherwise ;)

I was just now going to post the actress' actual birthdate as a caution but you beat me to it. To be fair, the synopsis lists her as 16, but from the thumbnail sheet - not so much.

I want to be fair so I'm not going to judge this all on my own - if someone else tells me she looks too old, I'll move this film to Verified Off-Topic.

By someone else you are condoning to someone else having to confirm this besides Art. To be fair Art has not played fair this year and should have been deleted when he asked to be.

I am not downloading this so no skin off my bandwidth but I also do not want encouragement of this on-going behavior. That is why it is on-going...

Confirm it yourself Art before you post it or do not post it. Simple think to do, is it not?

I had "runningoutofpatienceness" many months ago but I'm not going to have Art accuse me - AGAIN - of being unfair.

Not relevant for this forum? Ok admins can delete and anyone don't lose "precious" bandwith to d/l a useless movie.
It was more simply to delete this thread...but i've noticed in your replies a little thing seems like..."Art we're bored of you and you're useless posts..."

And in reply for ptg that admit is one that want to be erase me from here...in your life you're doing correct ALL? anoyne can make a mistake. For everything there's a solution...
I've put here some good stuff since we was on the old forum...and when i was post "trash posts" they (admins) always delete without problems...

Now is simple to get sentences...now i've bad reputations...i am sure that more of you think i am OFF TOPIC here...so tell me and finally i know of who i am not pleasant...

The actress was born in 1983. The film was released in 2005. You do the math.
She was 23 when the film was released. That's 7 YEARS over the age limit at FLM.

So why have you posted this film here, Art? I'm trying very hard to understand.

OK, one more try and then I'm through.

It took me less than a minute to verify the age of the actress in this film. One minute.

You could have done this and avoided embarrassing yourself AGAIN.

Why should the ADMINS have to figure out if a film is relevant or not? You're the one posting the film. IF YOU CAN'T BE BOTHERED TO WATCH A FILM TO SEE IF IT'S ON-TOPIC OR NOT THEN DON'T POST IT. You waste everyone's time.

You wanting to add to the FLM community IS a fine thing.

You not giving a shit whether a film you're adding actually belongs in FLM is NOT a fine thing.

You not giving enough of a shit to be bothered to actually WATCH a film you're trying to add to FLM is NOT a fine thing.

You trying to make someone ELSE verify YOUR films instead of you doing it yourself before you even post it EVERY STINKING TIME is NOT a fine thing.

You whining when the FLM membership gets pissed because you refuse to give enough of a shit to actually watch a film yourself is NOT a fine thing.

You blaming someone else for being mean or hating you when you keep doing the same WRONG things over and over even after being REPEATEDLY asked not to is NOT a fine thing.

You requiring us to explain the obvious to you AGAIN is NOT a fine thing.

I know this entire post has gone completely past you and won't make any difference - you'll pull the same BS again, then whine about how mistreated you are. I'm so over this crap.
