2 questions

Post by donkeykog »   0 likes

I had a Emule virus or crash a couple weeks ago and lost almost everything in my download list. About 10 survived of which I have asked for in the new request form. There are two I can not find and have tried the normal and advance search.

The two files are:

Big Girl (2005) (ET).avi
SA.mp4

If anyone can knows where to find them, please let me know. :D

Question 2:

When does a file revert back to a [REQ] if nobody has it?

Dust, Two Wheeled Time Machine, and Dreamdoll have been in my emule download since July with no activity and nobody seems to have them when requested. Do ed2k links ever get put back in req rather then people continuing to req something that is obviously lost?

I don't know for sure what films either of those titles belong to but I believe SA.mp4 is Summer Angst from here and I've reshared it.

I don't think we've ever had a case where we decided to put something back in [REQ]. We lost many of the regular posters when the shutdown happened two years ago, and the ones who continued posting either already had the files or didn't want them badly enough to ask for a repost.

I'm open to the idea of putting things back in [REQ] but I certainly don't want to go through every [REL] forum to find them. I don't download every film but I'll reshare anything I have downloaded. I don't know how many people look at the Requested files section so that's a factor too. I'd think a repost request should be up for quite awhile before moving a film back to [REQ]. I've had files in my queue for literally years before they actually finished. :D

What does everyone think?

You were right on the money with SA Phuzz Thanks, apparently had lost LB in the virus so now I can add that so double thanks! :D

Still looking for Big Girl if anyone finds it.

On the second question, I forgot we now have a a system of letting people know whether the link has been re-shared (the check-marks) Is it possible to set the 7 day limit on the list for check marked items to let people have time to see that they were re-released. And then the ones that have been requested that get no check marks, stay up for a much longer period of time until released or say 6 months, after six it will be moved back to [REQ]. Many people (who might have it), only check in once or twice a month or less, but miss the 7 day window that the file is requested for. As I would think most files seem to be valid and can be off in 7 days, I don't think this would clog the request board.

Post a link to the Big Girl thread - makes it easier to tell what exactly you're looking for.

I can't find it thats the problem, I know I got it from here as these are the only ed2ks I do. It is in my downloads listed as above but can't find the page here for it to add my request. :D I am pretty sure that it is a short film. It is sized at 210.32MB.

Everything is possible ;)

Currently there is 7 day limit regardless if the check mark is set or not. The limit could be changed, for example to 14 days, or there could be two different limits depending if the check mark is set or not. Note that you can "refresh" your requests before they expire by clicking on the button again. I thought that if a file is not reshared within 7 days, a user may download it from somewhere else and not be interested anymore. By "refreshing" the request, a user indicates that he is still interested in the file. Also bumping the threads could be considered; maybe someone can post a different rip.

I think if anybody needs a REL that is no longer available, it would be nice if they first try to find another rip and release it here. If another rip cannot be found, bump the thread and ask admins to move it back to REQ.

WHOOMP, There it is! :D Thanks Mimsy!

I think the limit on checked items should be re-moved after 7 like were doing. On the ones not checked should stay up much longer for the reasons I mentioned. I know I could go back re-request them every so often but I know I'll forget and may miss having them up when someone who has them comes on. I think there are very few like this that have no one to share and could be left for a long period of time so that it is pretty well obvious that even the once in awhilers don't have them. Then those can be dropped or requested to have put back in the [REQ]. I agree that people should look first elsewhere but we share many films that cannot be readily found elsewhere, like Dreamdoll, although I did find some interesting sites googling that one :blush

Just my two cents on the new request stuff

Thanks as always for you guys time taking care of the board! :D

I've changed the expiration to 14 days; I guess it's reasonable to assume that people may have no time to check the board every week. Currently only the requester can take down the request (by clearing the checkbox and clicking the button), not even admins can remove files from the list, so I'm afraid that if requests stay up for a long time, they may remain on the list long after we've found alternative rips, etc. For the time being it is necessary to refresh requests every 1-2 weeks (you don't have to wait until they actually expire), but I will think about extending the software (incl. admin interface to remove files from the list).
