A Mac user thanks you for this wonderful site!

My only significant disappointment as that every link I see here is for edonkey, which I believe is for PCs (not Macs). Actually, having a Mac can be very frustrating. I live near one of the planet's epicenters of copied software and the choice for Mac software is very much less (and costlier). $600 software is available in several cities in S.E. and E. Asia for under $10.

Take note however, my neighbour who has bought some recently did a virus test and he says that every single CD has many viruses.

But back to the subject... will edonkey work on my Mac. And what the heck are the differences between edonkey, emule and amule?

Well, 15 minutes into my reading of the mac p2p site I see that it recommends the following...

1. mldonkey - the basic software

2. mlmac - an interface that makes the above easier to use.

I'll get back to you all whether it works and how easy or difficult it is for a non-nerd. I have better things to do than sit for hours in front of a computer. Ask me no questions and I'll tell you no lies...

But you know I don't entirely trust anonymous sources on the web, on a forum, anywhere. Best will be to locate the local expat mac expert, take him for lunch and ask him his opinion. I live in a developing cuntry and Mac experts are rare.

The designers of these websites, bless their hearts for working for free, aren't in tune with the average person who doesn't have the slightest idea about computers except keyboardd and monitor (which I insist on still calling 'the screen').

I found the download page but nowhere did it explain that the picture of a white page means it is a document of some sort to read (though none of my default ones will do the job. It's a blah-blah.sig. whatever the heck that is, like I'm supposed to know! Anyway, to the left of it was a question mark, which I surmised after it didn't work fiddling around with the downloaded sofware that it's bunch of words not a working machine file (exe?).

Anyway I went back to the page found another weird symbol (a red mart on each side) andd voila, that appears to be the actual software. So they don't exactly hold your hand you have to be somewhat savvy with computers to even get at the basics.

I see it just unstuffit-ed. Let me take a look and see if it works with an edonkey file on your website...

The mlmac interface was easy to download. I just dragged the icon to my bar at the bottom which for some weird reason has disappeared now that I closed it (other applications don't do that).

mlmac appeared to be ready to function IF I got the mldonkey installed. Well, after downloading the mldonkey I got a file on my desktop with 25 items, none of which make any sense to me, even the 'readme.txt' has nothing in it.

That's what I like about Apple $$$ products. Stick the CD in the slot and they basically install themselves. Not so here. Unless someone else has some experience doing this I'll being wining and dining the Mac techie or hiring him, or both. Grrrr.

And once I do get set up I am a little concerned since next stop might be Afghanistan. I don't want to have to rent an expensive apartment with ADSL connection and leave it on all day while I'm at work. Geez, I can buy pirated movies at the market for $2. Unfortunately not 'Maladolescencia or 'Little Lips'.

For the techies among you the name of the mldonkey files I downloaded are as follows... For the '?' file it is called... mldonkey-2.7.3.tar.bz2.sig The name of the other symbol file I downloaded is called ... mldonkey-2.5.22.tar.gz or possibly another version. Frankly I don't remember which one among the dozens it was. It's not made easy. You are given a shite-load of a list of choices with no explanation as to which one or ones to choose.
