Because their father has gone to the war the goverment sent two Italian prisoners of war to their farm
to work. During those few years the Italians were more like family members, friends and temporary fathers.
The war was over for them so they weren't enemies any mpre.
And in the end the story was a little bit romantic too because.... they all liked each other and,... (I can't write more because it were spoiler
) I don't know if it were real life story,
